Pålsboda combines a rich railway history with cultural sites and leisure activities of varying lengths and scales: from a 94-metre pump track to a 38-kilometre cycling route. This range can help you choose where to stay: you can focus on local history, activities in town or a longer bike ride. The experiences also differ considerably—from architecture and archaeological heritage to cycling and winter sports.

Railways and local history

The Västra stambanan railway was routed through Pålsbodaåsen at the so-called Brötabacken in 1862. The narrow-gauge railway between Pålsboda and Finspång was built in 1874 and extended to Örebro in 1901. These dates mark different stages: the route of the Västra stambanan, the construction of the narrow-gauge railway and its subsequent extension. The Västra stambanan is particularly relevant to the town’s development: the railway’s creation is linked to Pålsboda’s development as one of Hallsberg Municipality’s four localities. This makes it possible to consider the two railway connections in terms of their respective roles in local history.

Church and archaeological heritage

Pålsboda Church was completed in 1936, and its design was strongly inspired by the church in Sköllersta. This specific design connection offers a point of interest for architecture enthusiasts. Tarstaborg, an ancient hillfort between Sköllersta and Pålsboda, offers a different historical perspective. It is the largest hillfort in Örebro County. From Tarstaborg, the view extends across the plain to the north, the Kilsbergen hills and Kvarntorpshögen to the west; visibility may vary. As an archaeological monument, Tarstaborg is protected under Sweden’s Historic Environment Act (1988:950).

Cycling routes and trails

At 38 kilometres, the Pålsbodarundan is a longer cycling option. You can start in Svennevad or Pålsboda; the route passes the historic site of Tarsta fornborg. Check current trail conditions and access rules before setting out. The Motionsspår in Pålsboda is 2.5 kilometres long and starts at the sports ground. The 7-kilometre cross-country ski trail runs around Tarsta; check its current route before setting out. In terms of length, the Motionsspår is the shortest, while the ski trail and cycling route cover considerably greater distances. This lets you weigh up the activity and distance together.

Pump track and visiting hours

The 94-metre pump track is on Norra Bangatan. It is suitable for all ages and experience levels. Bikes of all sizes, kick bikes, inline skates and skateboards can be used on the track. If you plan to visit the pump track, check the latest information about opening and permitted equipment in advance.

Pålsboda Förr och Nu is scheduled to welcome visitors during the summer season, from June to August, Thursday to Sunday between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.; visits at other times can be arranged by appointment. Confirm your visit before travelling. If you would like to come outside the stated hours, arrange an appointment in advance.
