Hallsberg railway station reveals a distinctive part of the town’s history: the current brick building dates from 1886 and is a protected historic building. Connections to Örebro, Motala and Mjölby made the station a railway hub. This historic role gives the railway a firm place in Hallsberg alongside the town’s art and nature experiences. If you’re interested in transport history, you can encounter it here both at the station building and in exhibitions.

Railway History and Art

The railway exhibition at Magasinet displays objects and historic railway uniforms. It provides information about railway workers and includes a film; children can operate a model train. There is also a café in the same building, next to the exhibition. The café’s opening hours may vary by season.

Another cultural trail leads to Bergööska House. It was built in the late 19th century for the merchant Adolf Bergöö and designed by Ferdinand Boberg. Bergöövåningen includes a ballroom with a mural by Carl Larsson and art by Karin Larsson. Hallsberg Art Gallery is also located in Bergööska House. Here, you can encounter architectural history and art, while the railway exhibition explores another part of the town’s history.

From 1 September to mid-May, guided tours of Bergööska House are offered in autumn, winter and spring. Hallsbergs konsthall hosts art exhibitions from September to May; in summer, the municipality holds an annual summer exhibition. This means there are different exhibition periods to consider when planning your visit. Check current tour times and exhibition dates in advance, as seasonal offerings and schedules may change.

Green Trails and Activities

Ekoparken is a large ecological park in the Hallsberg urban area, with walking paths and a playground. At Ă–stra dammen, a restricted-access area is in effect from 1 April to 31 July to protect nesting birds. Take this period into account when planning your visit and check the dates before you go.

Located in central Hallsberg, Stocksätterskogen has paths through deciduous forest and is used for recreation. Numerous deciduous tree species provide a habitat for many species there. Hälsans Stig is 4 kilometres long in total, runs partly through Ekoparken and has no designated starting or ending point. Kulturslingan, by contrast, is a cultural trail about 3 kilometres long with around 20 points of interest. The two trails therefore differ both in their stated focus and in length: Kulturslingan centres on points of interest, while the route and navigation of Hälsans Stig are described more specifically as having no fixed start or end point.

For an activity focused on exercise, Hinderbanan is near Ekoparken, directly behind the ice rink. There you can train your strength, stamina and flexibility by jumping, crawling and climbing. The walking paths and cultural trail are complemented by another way to enjoy physical activity in Hallsberg.

Alléhallen also offers seasonal water activities: the oval outdoor pool is about 10 metres long and open in summer. There is a slide and water-splash features for the youngest visitors. Check the current seasonal opening before your visit, as facility details may change.
