River Landscapes and Terrain near Korskrogen

The Mellanljusnan Nature Reserve covers a 24-kilometre stretch of the Ljusnan River, untouched by development, between Laforsen and Korskrogen, as well as part of the surrounding woodland. The Mellanljusnan Korskrogen–Edeforsen Natura 2000 area, meanwhile, extends along the Mellanljusnan River from Korskrogen to Edeforsen. Both descriptions refer to river landscapes, but name different endpoints and protected areas. Using these names to understand the landscape helps distinguish the 24-kilometre stretch of river from the extent of the Natura 2000 area.

The terrain is also described in specific terms: near Korskrogen, a ridge 25 to 30 metres high, with steep sides, follows the eastern valley slope. The height refers to the ridge; it adds a different landscape feature to the river description. In the area around Korskrogen, the Ljusnanleden hiking trail runs along the northeastern side of the river. For orientation along the river, both a named trail and a compass direction are provided. Check current trail conditions before setting out on a hike.

Hiking and Fishing on the Ljusnan

The Ljusnan corridor near Korskrogen, used for fishing, includes 40 kilometres of flowing water and calm, still-water areas between Laforsen and Ljusdal. This description highlights two types of water within the same corridor: flowing water and calmer water. If fishing is part of your plans, check the applicable fishing regulations and water conditions; both can change.

Lassekrog: A History of Travel and Work

The Lassekrog inn was built in 1671 and, over the centuries, served as an overnight stop for carters, their horses and other travellers. In the 1960s, it was relocated and restored because of road construction; it reopened in August 1963. The relocation and restoration are part of its architectural history, as is its early founding date.

The Kojby at Lassekrog was completed in September 1966. Albert Viksten conceived it as a cultural-history monument commemorating living conditions in the forests of earlier times. Its reconstructed buildings are associated with charcoal burning, forestry and log driving. Alongside the history of the inn, this offers a second perspective on the region: life and work in the forest.
