Sandviken is a pasture-farm settlement at Flosjön and lies on the Romboleden section between Dala-Floda and Ljusbodarna. The trail passes the pasture farm, while the original buildings are grouped near the lakeshore. This brings a specific section of the pilgrim trail, the settlement pattern and the lakeshore landscape together in one place. Depending on whether you are more interested in hiking, cultural heritage or the lake, a different side of Sandviken comes to the fore.
Romboleden: Section and Route Options
The Romboleden section from Dala-Floda to Ljusbodarna is 14.5 km long and passes the Sandviken pasture farm at Flosjön. It is part of Sweden’s longest pilgrim trail, whose origins date back to the 11th century. The 14.5 km figure gives the specific trail distance; the history of the pilgrim trail adds a cultural perspective on the same section.
There is also an alternative route on the Romboleden section: the gravel road along Flosjön to Sandviken. This description refers to a route along the lake to the settlement, while the 14.5 km figure specifies the section from Dala-Floda to Ljusbodarna. The distinction is useful for planning: one describes an alternative, while the other gives the length and endpoints of the named section.
Pasture-Farm Settlement and Landscape at Flosjön
The original pasture-farm buildings are grouped near the shore of Flosjön. The open landscape at Flosjön is dominated by fields and meadows for growing fodder, along with a few clusters of deciduous trees. This brings two distinct features of the place together: the buildings show how the settlement is arranged, while the fields, meadows and clusters of deciduous trees shape the landscape. Those interested in cultural landscapes can shift their gaze from the pasture farm to its open surroundings.
Swimming Area and Steamboat Excursions
There is a swimming area with a sandy beach at Flosjön by the Sandviken pasture farm. The swimming area is not municipally operated. The lake is therefore not only part of the landscape and the route description, but also the setting for a specifically named swimming area.
On excursions with the steamboat S/S Ångslupen Agnes, visitors stop at the pasture farm and have a fika break with food they have brought along. Groups of up to 15 people can enquire and book by phone. If you plan to include this option in your itinerary, confirm the excursion dates again before travelling. The boat trip offers a different way to include the pasture farm in your stay than hiking the trail section.
Further North: Sången and Sångån
From Sandviken, the route heads north to Lake Sången and runs partly along the Sångån River. Historically, activities involving dams, mills and log driving took place on the Sångån. This connection with the river adds a history of water use to the themes around Flosjön. If you are interested in the cultural landscape, this route lets you explore the historical use of the Sångån alongside the pasture farm and the pilgrim trail.
