In Sågmyra, the history of the wool industry connects with various aspects of the town: Tidstrands yllefabrik is a centrally located, active industrial heritage site, and the Sågmyra Hembygdsmuseum tells the story of the wool factory’s heyday. The Ylleleden trail runs through Sågmyra, and Årbobadet offers a place to swim. When planning, you can weigh up culture, trails and a break by the water.

Wool history in the town and at the museum

At the Sågmyra Hembygdsmuseum, the exhibits focus not only on the history of the wool factory but also on wool crafts and their designs. On display are wool felts designed by, among others, Viola Gråsten and Sigvard Bernadotte. There are also children’s blankets featuring fairy-tale motifs such as Cinderella and John Blund, as well as princes and princesses. These works complement the story of the industrial heyday with concrete examples of wool design.

Tidstrands yllefabrik is centrally located in Sågmyra and is an active industrial heritage site. Alongside the exhibits at the Hembygdsmuseum, it is another point of reference for the town’s wool history. The museum is open with staff on Saturdays and Sundays from 12 to 15. If you’re planning a visit, check the opening hours before your trip.

The church and local history

Sågmyra kyrka was built at the initiative of local parishioners and inaugurated in April 1970. Its origins in a community initiative and the exact inauguration date give a visit to the church a clear historical connection. The church has a hearing loop and is accessible. If either of these facilities is important for your visit, check the details in advance.

Trails, water and an October event

The Ylleleden trail runs through Sågmyra and offers a different way to experience the town from the museum: here, the route itself takes centre stage. The illuminated trail in Sågmyra was established in 1979 and renovated and extended in 2004. Vrebroströmmen also flows through Sågmyra and has power stations. This adds another technological aspect to the town’s attractions, alongside the wool industry.

The Kyrkleden trail starts at Vidåsberget, north of Sågmyra, and runs from Falun Municipality to Leksand. If you’re planning a specific hike, check the trail conditions and markers in advance. The Hackmora Bergslopp is an event with a set date: this recurring race, held since 1992, climbs three kilometres to Hackmoraberget, north of Sågmyra, and takes place on the second Sunday in October. Check the current event date when planning your visit. The main difference between the trail and the race is their timing: on the Kyrkleden, the route and trail markers are the focus; for the race, it’s the October date.

Årbobadet offers a place to swim in Sågmyra. Sågmyra Café och Skafferi adds a fika stop for visitors and locals alike. Its selection includes Swedish delicacies, pickled red onions, Svagdricka, homemade rusks, tea, coffee, marmalade, jam and old-fashioned sweets. The products available may change.
