One five-kilometre hike starts at Envikens gamla kyrka; another leads through marshland and old spruce forest in the Spjärshällen Nature Reserve. Other highlights include a protected wooden church, folk music and rockabilly.

Churches and culture in Enviken

Envikens gamla kyrka was built primarily between 1669 and 1673 as the first church at this location. The wooden church has a rectangular nave and a chancel with a straight end wall. The vestry is on the north side, the porch on the south side, and a narrower tower stands at the west end. As a church cultural heritage site, the church is protected under Chapter 4 of the Swedish Cultural Heritage Act (KML).

This is distinct from Envikens kyrka, which was inaugurated in 1957. The lively folk music scene and 1950s culture, including rockabilly, are also part of the area’s cultural profile. Enviksdagen’s programme includes activities such as a classic car rally, a flea market and activities for children. Programme details may vary.

Hiking: two different distances

The Torsktjärnsrundan is five kilometres long and starts at Envikens gamla kyrka. It follows orange trail markers and connects two old hiking trails towards Arnbo and Gårdvik. From Torsktjärnsberget, the route offers views of Enviken and the surrounding area; visibility depends on local conditions. You can park at the old church for the hike. Availability may vary.

The 24-kilometre Pilgrimsleden can also be hiked in Enviken. It is easy to walk and marked in orange. Comparing the stated distances, it is almost five times as long as the Torsktjärnsrundan. This makes it easier to judge in advance which of the two distances suits your hiking plans; no hiking time is specified.

Spjärshällen: nature reserve and observation tower

The Kurberget–Alderbacka–Spjärshällen hike is accessible from Enviken and passes through the Spjärshällen Nature Reserve. Its landscape includes marshland and old spruce forest. The reserve is also part of the Natura 2000 network. An observation tower stands on Spjärshällen, which is 506 metres above sea level. There is also a wind shelter where overnight stays are possible.

A snowmobile route runs through the northern part of the reserve between Enviken or Linghed and Svartnäs. This is a separate way to explore the area and should not be confused with the hiking trails described above. Seasonal conditions and access rules may change; check them before your trip.

Local history and activities

The forest museum in Göras Trösklada covers forestry in the local area, from the 1850s to mechanisation around 1960. The subject therefore spans more than a century. Görasgården was inaugurated in 1984. There, the local heritage association organises the Göras Days, with various activities and refreshments. The Göras Days do not have fixed annual dates; if you are planning specifically to attend, check the date before your trip.

Fishing is possible in the Marnäsån, but a fishing licence is required. Alongside churches, music and hiking, this offers another activity by the water.
