Activities around Fors offer three different options: cycling on Forsturen, running at Forsvallen and fishing in the Björsjö-Åsgarn fishing area between Fors and Garpenberg. Each activity raises a different planning question: How long does the cycling tour take, where does it go, what running route is available and what should you know before fishing?

Forsturen: route and time frame

Forsturen is an easy 29-kilometre cycling tour that takes two to four hours. It starts and ends at the library in Avesta. The route follows the old railway embankment as far as Fors; within Fors, it runs along Basvägen on an existing paved cycle path. Forsturen also follows the west shore of Åsgarnssjön and uses paved cycle paths as well as gravel roads.

For planning purposes, the total distance and the section through the town are two different measures: the 29 kilometres and the two-to-four-hour duration refer to the entire tour, while Basvägen specifies its route through Fors. The start and end point at the library in Avesta is also part of the plan if you want to do the full tour. The description of the tour as easy to cycle is another factor to consider. It can be considered separately from the time frame and the different surface types.

Running routes at Forsvallen

Forsvallen has an exercise and running trail facility. One illuminated running route there is 2.5 kilometres long. This offers an alternative to the cycling tour, which takes several hours. While Forsturen is described by its total distance, time frame and route, the running route has specific features in its length and lighting. If you would rather spend your time running than cycling, you can use the 2.5-kilometre distance as a guide. The route length helps you choose without specifying how long the run will take.

Fishing in the Björsjö-Åsgarn area

The Björsjö-Åsgarn fishing area offers pike and perch fishing in several lakes, including Åsgarn. The area also includes a smaller number of forest ponds and lies between Fors and Garpenberg. Forsturen follows the west shore of Åsgarnssjön, while the fishing area covers several lakes. Cycling along the lakeshore and fishing in an area with several bodies of water are therefore different activity options.

A printed booking confirmation serves as a fishing permit for the fishing area. As fishing conditions and access may change, check these details before your visit. When planning a fishing trip, both the choice of area and the conditions there, including the rules for fishing permits, matter. A printed confirmation is part of the practical preparations.

Comparing activities

The options differ in which planning factor is most important. Forsturen provides a total distance and time frame as well as a route; the length of the running route at Forsvallen is specified. For fishing, the bodies of water, fish species and local conditions are key. If you are looking for a time frame for an activity, the cycling tour offers the clearest guide. For running, the route length matters, while fishing requires checking current conditions as part of your preparations.
