Torhamns udde is an internationally renowned birdwatching site: numerous birds breed and rest there. At the tip of the headland are an observation tower and, right next to it, Torhamns FĂĄgelstation. The 3.4 km Torhamns udde hiking trail complements birdwatching with a designated walking route. This puts two specific nature-focused activities side by side for your stay: birdlife and exercise on the hiking trail.

Water Sports and Swimming Spots

In Petersvik, open waters and good wind conditions are suitable for kitesurfing and windsurfing. The area also has a sandy beach and a long bathing jetty. This lets you treat water sports and time at the beach as separate priorities, without having to combine them into a fixed itinerary.

Pettersvik is a child-friendly swimming beach, about 50 metres from Torhamn guest harbour. Facilities may change; check them before your visit if needed. The guest harbour has around 20 visitor berths. If you plan to moor there, check current availability, as capacity may change.

Trails and Routes

The Torhamns udde hiking trail is 3.4 km long. The Torhamn–Kristianopel cycle route is 25.5 km long. When comparing the two land routes, both the mode of travel and the distance are useful: here, a walking route is contrasted with a cycle route covering a considerably greater distance. This lets you weigh up the type of activity and the scope of your route planning separately.

The Torhamn loop runs mostly through sheltered waters. Its defining feature is therefore different from the stated distances of the hiking and cycling routes. If you are considering several options, you can distinguish between a walking route, a longer cycle route and the waterside character of the Torhamn loop.

History and Culture

Just outside Torhamn, in Möckleryd, Hästhallen is home to the largest collection of rock carvings in Blekinge. It comprises more than 140 figures, mainly ships, people, animals and cup marks. The rock carvings were made during the Bronze Age, roughly between 1700 and 500 BC. The variety of motifs and the long time span give the site its own cultural and historical focus alongside the nature and route offerings.

Torhamn Church also has distinctive historical details: its monumental mural by Gunnar Torhamn depicts Jesus among the residents of Torhamn. The pulpit dates from the mid-1630s; the monogram of King Christian IV can be seen on its canopy.

Getting There and Planning Your Accommodation

In summer, the M/F Ungskär operates the Torhamn–Eastern Archipelago route. The ferry service is seasonal and timetables may change, so check the schedule for your travel dates. There are also bus connections from Torhamn to Jämjö and Karlskrona. For these connections, too, it is worth checking the current timetable before planning specific transfers.

If your plans depend on the bus or ferry, check the timetables against your travel dates. This lets you arrange your accommodation and daily plans around your own priorities.
