Horno Alto nº 2 stands 64.20 metres tall. The structure gives the industrial history of El Port De Sagunt a tangible measure. Nearby, routes, art and waterfront locations offer other perspectives on the port town. When choosing a destination, you can ask yourself whether you are most interested in industrial structures, a themed route, or the beach and port.

Industrial history: structure, tour and story

Horno Alto nº 2 has a visitor entrance pavilion equipped with audiovisual facilities. In 2024, the Generalitat Valenciana declared the blast furnace a Site of Cultural Interest (Bien de Interés Cultural, BIC). “Factory Town” offers another way to explore: the route leads through seven industrial heritage spaces in Puerto de Sagunto in sequence. The project combines an audio guide with a fictional podcast for visiting this heritage. The Ruta por el Patrimonio Industrial en Puerto de Sagunto is also a tour exploring the city’s industrial heritage. This offers two distinct ways to explore: a route through seven spaces with an audio narrative, and a general tour focused on industrial heritage.

The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Begoña is also among the described industrial heritage structures: the church has an eclectic design inspired by the Basílica de Begoña in Bilbao. The Ruta Urban Art offers a different artistic perspective. It includes realistic art, abstraction, illustration and traditional graffiti from the MésqueMurs festival. The route is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; check current operating details before your visit.

Cycling route and its history

The Vía Verde de Ojos Negros is a 235-kilometre cycle tourism route. Its history began with a railway line for transporting iron ore from Ojos Negros in Teruel to Puerto de Sagunto. If you are interested in this connection, the route brings together present-day cycling and a history of industrial transport, though these are not the same subject.

The Centro de Interpretación de la Vía Verde de Ojos Negros is on the first floor of the Puerto de Sagunto tourist office, at Avenida del Mediterráneo 67. The centre has an exhibition room and an audiovisual room. These provide two different ways to learn about the route.

Port promenade and Playa Puerto de Sagunto

The promenade at the port of Sagunto combines leisure facilities with a museum presentation of the port and Sagunto’s industrial heritage. It includes an accessible path with a 4% gradient. Playa Puerto de Sagunto has a different focus: the beach is more than a kilometre long, with very fine sand and dunes along its shore. It also has sports facilities and amenities for children. Access points are designed for people with reduced mobility. The port promenade and beach therefore offer different ways to spend time by the water: leisure and port history at the promenade, and beach features and facilities at the shore.

Historic Grau Vell

Grau Vell adds a historic fishing quarter to the industrial history. Under urban planning law, it is classified as a Núcleo Histórico Tradicional and a Bien de Relevancia Local. The traditional fishing quarter and the monument form an ensemble; the block containing the monument was already there before 1933.

The “Sagunt i la Mar” interpretation centre in Grau Vell opened to the public in 2026. If you are planning a visit, check the current visiting conditions. Together, these places offer different themes for exploring El Port De Sagunt: industrial structures and their history, artistic and themed routes, a historic quarter, and different perspectives on the port and beach.
