Paiporta can be explored through several specific themes: the history of the El Pilar brickworks, Sant Jordi Church and its artistic connections, and local cuisine featuring distinctive breads and dishes. Each perspective has a different focus—industrial history, religious and artistic traditions, and food culture. This lets you decide which of them will shape your trip.

Industrial History and Architecture

The El Pilar brickworks, also known in Paiporta as El Rajolar de Bauset, began operating in mid-1924. When the city council acquired the Rajolar site in December 1994, only the main hall and chimney remained of the original complex. These two dates offer a concrete glimpse into the town’s industrial history and the condition of the site at the time.

The Chalet de Catalá offers another link to industrial history: it was originally built as an extension of Rafael Catalá’s silk-weaving factory. The chalet has a public garden. Check how the garden is being used before visiting.

Church, Art and Events

Sant Jordi Church was inaugurated on 10 August 1754 and is designated as a site of local cultural significance. It is dedicated to Sant Jordi; at the same time, San Roque, the municipality’s patron saint, occupies a prominent place inside the church. A chapel in the church was painted by Salvador Montesa Manzano, a member of the Parpalló group. Its dedication, local devotion and artistic design give the church several distinct cultural connections.

The Auditori de Paiporta can also be described using specific figures: the main hall has 472 seats and the conference hall has 125. The main hall is therefore considerably larger. If you are planning to attend an event, check the current programme and access arrangements.

The 2025 Festes de Sant Roc programme offers a clearly time-bounded glimpse of the town’s festival culture. It combined live music, popular culture, children’s activities and sport with religious and festive traditions. The listed events included the Dansà de Sant Roc, a Correfoc, the Festa del Melonet, the Cavalcada de Sant Roc and the Cremà del Gos. If you are planning a trip around a festival, check the current dates and programme; they may vary from one edition to another.

Traditional Breads and Guisao de San Roc

Paiporta’s traditional selection of breads included the Pataca, also known as Pataqueta, and the Rollo. These named breads offer a concrete introduction to local food culture. Another example is Guisao de San Roc, a dish made with chicken, rabbit and meatballs. The sauce contains onions, tomatoes, garlic, parsley, chopped almonds and cognac, and is seasoned with red pepper. Together, the breads and the dish show two distinct sides of Paiporta’s culinary tradition.
