For a stay in Ballestar, nature trails and cultural heritage offer two specific focal points. The Parc Natural de la Tinença de Benifassà is a protected natural area; El Ballestar is one of the Tinença’s seven villages, connected by signposted hiking trails. There are also historic churches and the Fiestas de San Salvador. The hikes cover different types of routes: a circular route of about 75 kilometers, destinations along other routes, and specific information about individual trails.

Hiking Trails: Stages and Trail Status

The Ruta dels 7 Pobles de la Tinença de Benifassà is a circular route of about 75 kilometers, which is recommended to be divided into stages. It passes through terrain with significant elevation changes. Good physical preparation, suitable equipment, and experience with these kinds of activities are recommended for this route. Take these points into account when planning if you are considering the circular route.

The Ruta de los 7 Pueblos de la Tinença de Benifassà runs from La Pobla de Benifassà to El Ballestar and then on to Fredes. Together with the circular route, these routes involve different aspects of planning: one specifies an approximate total distance and division into stages, while the other gives a sequence of villages.

The PR-CV 75.3 runs from Bellestar to the PantĂ  d'Ull-decona; its certification status is currently under review. As the certification status may change, check it again before hiking. Signage and maintenance on this trail may not be optimal. The PR-CV 75.3 also requires navigation skills and knowledge of mountain safety. Signage and maintenance on the PR-CV 75.7 may also not be optimal; navigation skills and knowledge of mountain safety are required for this trail as well. Check the latest information before setting out on either trail.

Churches and a Walk

The Iglesia Parroquial de San Salvador del Ballestar is dedicated to San Salvador and dates from the 13th century. It can be reached via the CV105 and then the CV108; check road conditions before setting out. For those interested in ecclesiastical architecture, the chapel of the Sagrari in the Església del Salvador del Bellestar is another specific feature.

A walk to the Paraje de Les Vinyes leads to the Ermita de la SantĂsima Trinidad de El Ballestar, which dates from the 19th century. The walk thus links a named location with a historic chapel. When planning, you can distinguish between a hiking route with specified requirements and this route explicitly described as a walk, without assuming that both have the same trail information.

Fiestas de San Salvador

The Fiestas de San Salvador are Ballestar’s main festivities and are listed as taking place on the first or second weekend in August. If you are planning a trip at that time, check whether and when the festivities will take place in your travel year. The festivities add a seasonal planning point to the nature and culture themes, while the trails and churches offer specific ideas for choosing your itinerary regardless of the festivities.
