Torremendo is closely associated with the wooded landscape of the Sierra Escalona. Walking and cycling routes also lead to or pass through the town, each with a different focus in terms of route type and course. When planning a stay, it is therefore helpful to first decide what kind of outing you want: a longer walk, a bike ride along a specific road route, or a chance to take in the landscape. This makes it easier to match your search for hotels in Torremendo to the activities you actually have planned.

Woodland and Wildlife of the Sierra Escalona

The Sierra Escalona preserves a significant area of woodland, with ravines and shaded areas. Aleppo pines, strawberry trees, kermes oaks, mastic shrubs and dwarf palms are predominant. The Sierra is also home to birds of prey, as well as genets and wildcats. The woodland, terrain and wildlife give this natural area its distinct character.

Dry Landscape and La Pedrera Reservoir

The dry landscape around Torremendo is also shaped by agriculture. Water-saving cultivation methods are used, and most of the land is laid out in terraces to limit soil erosion. The terraces combine agricultural use with the goal of protecting the soil. Growing conditions can vary by season, and agricultural practices may change over the course of the year as a result.

La Pedrera Reservoir lies in a central, water-filled depression characterised by gentle slopes and limestone sandstone hills.

Walk from Arneva to Torremendo

A linear walking route leads from Dehesa de Pinohermoso in the district of Arneva to the district of Torremendo. The municipal route description from February 2019 gives the distance as 16.25 kilometres and rates it as moderate due to some climbs. These details may not reflect subsequent changes; check current trail conditions before setting out. The route passes through a characteristic landscape of agricultural land.

Cycling Routes with Different Focuses

An official cycling route through Orihuela, the Sierra Escalona and Torremendo follows the CV-925 as far as the town. It then continues between agricultural areas towards Hurchillo. Check road conditions and the current route status before riding. A GPX track is available to download for this route; check that the download is still available before setting off. Unlike the walking route, the cycling route focuses on the road and the onward journey to Hurchillo.

Mountain Bike Navigation at La Pedrera Reservoir

On the mountain bike route at La Pedrera Reservoir, it is advisable to bring detailed directions for junctions or a GPS track. Numerous rural access roads to huertas and tool sheds can lead to navigation errors. Check GPS data and route conditions before setting off.
