Twelve spouts define El Poador de la Font Major: built in the 18th century, this washhouse also served as a watering place for livestock. A stay in Callosa D'en Sarrià can focus on local history, festival traditions or trails. If you’re looking for a hotel, you can start by considering which of these aspects of the destination you’d like to shape your stay.

Local history and buildings

The Museo de Etnología y Arqueología displays and explains objects that have shaped local folk culture and customs. They tell the story of different societies that lived in the town and its natural and urban surroundings over the course of recent history. Rural activities, crafts, occupations and products are also among the museum’s themes. Everyday life and work are presented alongside archaeological and ethnological objects.

The Iglesia Parroquial de San Juan Bautista stands out for its monumental marble façade, made from stone quarried locally. Another surviving structure is El Portal, the only remaining gate of Callosa D'en Sarrià. Together with the El Poador de la Font Major washhouse, these places offer different ways to explore local history: through religious architecture, a former town gate and a facility for washing and watering livestock.

The Calvari offers another way to combine local history with a walk. This approximately 700-metre peri-urban zigzag ascent starts at the last house in the town centre and ends at a hermitage on Calvari Hill. Starting at the edge of the town centre and finishing on the hill gives the route a clearly defined form.

Festivals and local cuisine

The recurring Mostra de Cuina del Nyespro puts dishes featuring Níspero, a local fruit used as a main ingredient or accompaniment, in the spotlight. The event starts in early May and runs until June. On weekends, various restaurants in Callosa D'en Sarrià prepare dishes and preparations featuring the fruit. As specific dates and participating restaurants should be confirmed, it is worth checking before your trip.

The Moros y Cristianos celebrations in honour of the Virgen de las Injurias include special dances, such as the “ball de les pastoretes” and the “ball dels nanos”. The Danses de Sant Jaume follows its own, nighttime schedule: every year, dancing takes place in the Plaza de España from midnight on three days. Several couples, known as the “caps de dança”, begin; the local population and the audience present then join in the dancing until dawn. If you want to plan your trip around a festival, check the dates in advance, as programme details may vary.

Nature trails and landscapes

Les Fonts d'Algar was designated a protected wetland in 2002. The route there follows the river and passes through a limestone karst landscape with waterfalls, springs and pools known as “tolls”. Visitors can swim in the pools’ clear water; swimming conditions may vary. The site also has a tourist information office, parking, toilets, first aid, an arboretum, a picnic area and a second-category campsite. As some facilities may change, check which amenities are available before your visit.

The PR-CV 49 starts in the upper part of Callosa D'en Sarrià, near the IES. It passes through a mountain landscape marked by deep ravines and mountain passes with wide-ranging views. At Les Fonts d'Algar, visitors can take a 1.5-kilometre circular route along the river. The routes differ both in their layout and in their stated length: the Calvari is an approximately 700-metre zigzag ascent, while the Algar circular route covers 1.5 kilometres.

The El camino al Fort de Bèrnia route connects Les Fonts d'Algar with Fort de Bèrnia. The ascent offers views of the Aitana and Xortà mountain ranges. At the fort, the arches, moat, bastion, cistern and remains of the walls can still be seen. Since 1997, it has been classified as a BIC (Bien de Interés Cultural, an asset of cultural interest). This route therefore combines a described mountain landscape with surviving traces of the fortifications.
