Beneixama combines a valley plain shaped by olive groves and vineyards with hiking trails, museums and local festival traditions. This gives visitors different ways to plan their stay: time outdoors, local history or a date in the festival calendar.
Hiking Trails with Different Points of Interest
The Camino de los Molinos starts at Plaza del Mesó; check the local signage before setting out. Beneixama’s official hiking route passes the Ermita San Isidro, Alto dels Tres Pines, Senda de Toll Vell, Caseta de Castello, Casa dels Enginyers, Fuente de la Duenya and Alberg de Rita before returning to the Ermita San Isidro. This distinguishes a clearly named starting point in town from a route description that gives directions through its stops and return leg.
The PR-CV 52 also passes the municipal accommodation facilities at Rita and La Talaeta near Beneixama; check current trail conditions before setting out. The Sierra de la Solana near Beneixama has extensive hiking trails, and local access conditions may change. Beneixama is also listed among the municipalities along the VĂa Verde del Xixarra. It can be used on foot, by bicycle and in a wheelchair; surface conditions may change. The Camino del Cid also passes through Beneixama.
Landscape and the San Isidro Tradition
At La Talaeta, the Ermita de San Isidro Labrador stands on a plateau 740 metres above sea level, about 2 km from Beneixama. From there, the expansive panoramic view stretches across the VinalopĂł Valley. Various events during the San Isidro Labrador festival take place in the natural setting of Paraje La Talaeta. The festival is celebrated on the weekend closest to the feast day; since the chapel was inaugurated, a pilgrimage to it has taken place every year. Check the specific festival dates before travelling.
Museums, Church and Architectural History
Beneixama’s Ethnographic Museum is housed in the former washhouse building. Its tools, household items, furniture and books document the lives of Beneixama’s recent ancestors. The parish church of San Juan Bautista was inaugurated in 1841. It has nine side chapels dedicated to various saints; the interior also contains two large oil triptychs by local artist José Navarro Ferrero.
The Museo Navarro Ferrero honours the local artist and provides an overview of his artistic life and the various movements that influenced him. Beneixama’s Archaeological Museum is located in the Torre Atalaya. The tower is first mentioned in 1254 and has a clearly identifiable Almohad construction phase; a second phase dates from after the conquest. Confirm the opening arrangements for the Museo Navarro Ferrero and the Archaeological Museum in advance of your visit.
Festivals and Local Cuisine
The Fiestas de San Vicente Ferrer in El Salze are celebrated on the Monday of the second week of Easter in honour of Saint Vincent Ferrer. At the Festes de Moros i Cristians en honor a la Divina Aurora de Beneixama, the Soldadesca preserves various elements that have remained unchanged since the late 18th century. In early October, the fair “Beneixama al carrer, xe que bo!” presents activities and products from local businesses and associations. If you want a festival to determine your travel dates, check the specific event dates in advance.
Figatell is a traditional culinary speciality of Beneixama. Its availability at any particular establishment may vary.
