Route 12 is 10.17 kilometres long, rated low in difficulty, and can be completed on foot or by bicycle. Route 13 offers a different experience, with vineyards and a paved road towards Hondón. The local chapel and its patron saint festivals add a cultural focus to the trails. When planning, you can choose between scenery, activity and local history.

Routes and Landscape

The municipality of Monóvar has a network of 19 routes. Route 12 runs from the Aula de la Naturaleza to Cañadas de Don Ciro, reaching the village via the Cañada Real de los Mudos and the Vereda de los Mudos. Route 13 runs between Hondón and Cañadas de Don Ciro; a paved section crosses vineyards towards Hondón. The routes offer different points of reference for planning your trip: Route 12 has a set distance and difficulty level, while Route 13 offers a different connection to the landscape through its vineyards and route towards Hondón.

On Route 12, between El Cabezo and El Calafuch, there is a fenced plot considered a habitat for numerous rabbits and hares. A golden eagle may also occasionally be spotted there. Wildlife sightings are possible, but not guaranteed. Another historical point of interest along the route is El Hospital, where wounded soldiers from the Carlist War were housed.

Elsewhere in the municipality of Monóvar, trails and paths pass through vineyards, almond groves and olive groves, as well as over stone terraces. They also run past rural houses, cave houses, wells and marble quarrying areas. This wider setting offers further insight into the municipality’s rural surroundings, without attributing each of these landscape features solely to Canyades d'en Cirus.

Chapel and Patron Saint Festivals

The Ermita de la Mare de Déu de Fàtima de Les Canyades d'en Cirus was inaugurated in 1950, with Our Lady of Fátima as its patron saint. The chapel was built thanks to financial contributions from all the residents. Its small bell gable houses the Santa Anna bell (1), fitted with a wooden yoke and a crank. These details give the chapel a concrete architectural and local history alongside its religious significance.

The 2024 and 2025 patron saint festivals included a floral and fruit offering to the Virgen de Fátima, a procession and fireworks. A Gatxamiga cooking competition was also held in both years. Patron saint festivals in honour of the Virgen de Fátima were also held in 2026 and are considered traditional. If you would like to plan your trip around the festivities, check the dates for the relevant year.
