A natural area near the town center, a 45-hectare park with an artificial lake, and a 60-hectare woodland park showcase different sides of Tres Cantos. There are also hiking and cycling options, as well as courses on the water. If you’re looking for a hotel in Tres Cantos, you can plan your stay around nature watching, park visits, or outdoor activities.

Natural Areas and Gardens

Valdeloshielos is very close to the town center. This natural area has high ecological value and rich biodiversity. Holm oaks and broom are the main plants growing there; the area is also a natural habitat for wild boar. Birds of various species are easy to spot. Valdeloshielos therefore offers a different focus from the landscaped park areas.

Parque Central covers 45 hectares. Its large artificial lake is home to various fish and bird species. The Jardín Temático features twelve types of gardens, including rose gardens, palm groves, herbaceous plant beds, climbing plants, bamboo, conifers, aromatic plants, and a rock garden. The park thus combines a body of water with a variety of landscaped gardens.

Parque Este is a 60-hectare woodland park that runs along the wall of Monte de Viñuelas. Small paths invite you to stroll, while a cycle path runs around the entire perimeter. At 60 hectares compared with 45, Parque Este is larger than Parque Central. The parks also differ in their features: woodland and trails are the focus here, while the other park centers on a lake and twelve types of gardens.

Hiking, Cycling, and Activities on the Water

The Ecoturismo por Tres Cantos initiative presents five nature-focused routes for hiking and cycling. They range from five to 21 kilometers in length. One 11-kilometer family route is described in detail: it follows the third section of the Camino de Santiago de Madrid alongside Arroyo Tejada, crossing gently rolling pastureland to Colmenar Viejo.

Another option is the linear Arco-Verde Route RL12. It is 24 kilometers long and connects Hoyo de Manzanares with the Valdeloshielos area in Tres Cantos via Puente de la Marmota. On the RL12, Tres Cantos station is less than 300 meters east of the Valdeloshielos parking area. The station is in the municipality of the same name and is served by Cercanías Madrid line C-4. If you’re traveling by train, check the timetable for your travel dates.

The Bike Park Tres Cantos has several purpose-built BMX courses, with bumps, ramps, and turns for jumps and tricks. At the artificial lake in Parque Central, the Club de PiragĂĽismo offers courses in kayak polo, stand-up paddling, paddle surfing, and canoeing. The activities have different focuses: BMX on the courses and water sports on the lake.

Nature Topics and Finding Accommodation

The facilities of Aula de Medio Ambiente Las Vaquerizas are intended for exhibitions, courses, conferences, seminars, and workshops. Topics include nature, botany, fauna, the protection of natural resources, and sustainability. These plans complement the nature and outdoor activities with a themed program; check before visiting whether a suitable event is scheduled.
