Las Herreras brings together several points of interest to help you plan a trip: the Fortines de Las Herreras, the Ruta 6: Ruta de los Fortines and Camino de la Cabrera routes, Charco-Mato, and examples of rural and agricultural architecture. The themes range from military history and different types of trails to nature observation. This allows you to decide whether historical traces, a clearly defined trail, or a walk to a natural attraction should shape your stay.

Forts and rural architecture

The defensive structures of the Fortines de Las Herreras were built between 1936 and 1939 and formed part of a military complex of the Nationalist Front. The forts include the remains of trenches and machine-gun nests. Their dates and these features bring the military history to life: the structures were part of a larger military context. Las Herreras also has examples of rural and agricultural architecture. This style of building complements the military history with a distinct cultural theme and a different perspective on the area.

Trails with different destinations

Ruta 6: Ruta de los Fortines starts in Las Herreras and follows a marked path in the upper part of the village to Cerro Manotera. It is a linear route, 1.82 kilometres long, and takes approximately 30 minutes. Its destination, length, and approximate duration provide concrete points of reference for planning your time; also take its linear route into account.

Camino de la Cabrera is also linear, but follows a livestock trail and connects La EstaciĂłn with Las Herreras. You can travel it on foot, on horseback, or by bicycle. The difference compared with Ruta 6 is not just the destination: for Ruta 6, Cerro Manotera, 1.82 kilometres, and approximately 30 minutes are concrete points of reference; Camino de la Cabrera is defined by the connection between the two places, the type of trail, and the choice of transport. This lets you distinguish between the two routes by destination, time estimate, and preferred activity. Trail conditions can change; check them before setting out.

Charco-Mato: a walk and nature observation

The access point for Charco-Mato is at the entrance to Las Herreras; the walk there takes about 15 minutes. Charco-Mato is spacious and has a pleasant rocky area where you can cool off in hot weather. Among other birds, griffon vultures and cinereous vultures can be spotted there. This destination therefore offers both a place to cool off in hot weather and the chance to observe two species of vulture.

The difference between the time estimates is useful when planning: the approximately 15 minutes refers to the walk to Charco-Mato, while the approximately 30 minutes refers to Ruta 6. This allows you to consider a walk to a natural attraction and a linear route to Cerro Manotera as distinct options.
