Collado Mediano offers a range of options for a stay: routes through the dehesa, Roman heritage, and ecclesiastical architecture. The Camino de Miaccum passes through a landscape shaped by holm oaks and ash trees. If you’re looking for a hotel in Collado Mediano, you can tailor your stay to your interests: outdoor activities or cultural history.
Routes, dehesa, and viewpoints
The Camino de Miaccum starts at the sports center. The route is 5.5 km long, has an ascent of 83 m, and takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes. The 83 m refers to the route’s ascent. These figures help you estimate the time needed; the duration is approximate, and route conditions may change. Check conditions before setting out.
The route passes through the dehesa of Collado Mediano, shaped by holm oaks and ash trees. The municipality also has paths, trails, livestock tracks, and dehesas, offering numerous routes for hikers, cyclists, horseback riders, and walkers.
The Camino del JaralĂłn offers a different progression through the landscape: it runs through the Arroyo de Pozas valley to the summit of JaralĂłn, an important viewpoint with beautiful views of Collado Mediano. At Collado de Roblepollo, the route offers views of the Sierra de Guadarrama toward its northern slope. The Miaccum can be assessed by its length, ascent, and approximate duration; for JaralĂłn, the focus is on the route from the valley to the summit and the views associated with each location.
Collado Mediano borders the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park. La Cobañera is a natural monument in the form of a granite monolith and is depicted on Collado Mediano’s coat of arms.
Roman and ecclesiastical history
The El Beneficio archaeological site includes the remains of several Roman buildings and a section of road. It is protected as a Bien de Interés Cultural in the “Zona de Interés Arqueológico” category; the designation was made on June 21, 2012. You can visit the Roman complex on a guided tour by contacting the municipal administration in advance. Arrange the visit before your trip.
The parish church of San Ildefonso was built in the 18th century using stones from the former church and the Chapel of San Juan. It houses a 17th-century altarpiece transferred from the Convent of the Mercedarian nuns in Madrid. A stone cross erected in 1745 stands in front of the entrance. The dates refer to different elements: the altarpiece, the church building, and the stone cross.
Planning your stay
The Collado Mediano tourist information office provides information about nature routes and tourist services. You can use it for guidance when including these topics in your plans. This gives you a choice between landscape routes with different focuses and cultural sites; visiting El Beneficio requires an advance inquiry.
