San Vicente del Valle can be explored through the architectural history of the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción and the landscape of the Sierra de la Demanda. Other highlights include hiking routes, walks through forests and traces of rural heritage. These different themes offer several ways to plan a stay around your own interests.

Landscape and views of the Sierra

San Vicente del Valle lies in the Sierra de la Demanda, in a small valley north of the Sierra. The valley’s waters flow into the Río Tirón. Its position in the mountain range locates the village in the wider area, while the valley description gives a more precise sense of its setting. The Iglesia de San Vicente offers sweeping views of the Sierra. Thus, the landscape of the village includes both its geographical setting and a specific viewpoint.

A church built in several phases

The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción has a single-nave structure built from large stone blocks. The single nave and the large blocks describe two distinct features: the church’s layout and its construction in stone. The first building phase dates from the 6th century to the first decades of the 9th century; older building elements were also reused during this work. Later, in 1224, Bishop Mauricio reconsecrated the church. Inscriptions preserved in the church commemorate this consecration. The early building phase and the dated event of 1224 therefore provide distinct chronological reference points in the church’s history.

Rural heritage and festival history

The Monumento Agrícola stands at the entrance to the village and commemorates the area’s agricultural history. As part of the rural heritage, it serves primarily as a symbolic and educational memorial. The village’s festival history also includes a ritual dance group from San Vicente del Valle: it performed at the September Acción de Gracias festival and disbanded around 1960.

Hiking routes and getting there

Activities to consider include hiking routes and walks through forests. For a specific route, the first stage of the Sendero Dos Aguas GR-290 is a named trail: it passes through Belorado, San Clemente del Valle, Villagalijo, Santa Olalla, San Vicente del Valle and Fresneda de la Sierra. Check trail conditions before setting out.

The Servicio MAR is also relevant when planning your journey. San Vicente del Valle is a served stop on this demand-responsive public transport service between the Belorado and Pradoluengo areas. Booking arrangements may change, so check them before travelling.
