A 30.30-kilometre circular hiking trail, a waterfall trail with two access options, and a museum exploring rural and urban life: A Estrada brings together nature and culture. To plan your trip, you can first decide whether you want to focus on hiking trails, architectural history or local festivals. This makes it possible to assess the destination according to your interests without having to combine individual places or activities into a fixed itinerary.

Hiking Trails and Waterfalls

The PR-G 197 is a 30.30-kilometre circular hiking trail through San Xurxo de Codeseda and San Lourenzo de Sabucedo in the municipality of A Estrada. Its landscapes include riverside areas, native forests and mid-mountain regions. The Rutas do Concello offer another option: they comprise ten hiking trails that start in the centre of A Estrada. This provides a clearly defined circular route and several trails starting from the town centre as different starting points for planning a hike.

A trail through oak and pine forests leads to Fervenza de Callobre, passing two mills and crossing several wooden walkways before reaching a viewpoint. There are two access options: to the upper part of the waterfall or to its foot. The waterfall is on the Curantes, which flows into the Liñares; the Liñares then flows into the Ulla. Check trail conditions before setting out.

Museums, Romanesque Architecture and Building History

The Museo Manuel Reimóndez Portela features exhibitions about rural and urban A Estrada, education in the past, games and toys, and everyday life. A small art gallery includes works by Castelao and Muras, among others. There is also a library, a research room and an archive. The Museo do Pobo Estradense – Manuel Reimóndez Portela is housed in a former municipal slaughterhouse designed by architect Juan Argenti in 1924. The building's history and the collections' themes offer different points of interest for a visit to the museum.

Casa das Letras was created by converting the former José Antonio school. A description from 2015 lists reading and study rooms, research rooms, a media library and exhibition spaces. A Estrada also has examples of Romanesque architecture: up to 19 churches are attributed to the period from the 10th to the 13th century. Two Romanesque routes consist of circular walks; information panels at the churches and videos available to download via QR code provide additional information. Pazo de Oca is part of Galicia's Ruta de la Camelia. Torre de Guimarei, meanwhile, is a square tower dating from the 12th century and is considered abandoned.

Festivals and Regional Specialities

The Rapa das Bestas de Sabucedo is recognised as a festival of international tourist interest and has a history spanning more than 400 years. Visitors can join local people in groups to round up herds of horses. If you are interested in this festival, plan your trip around the specific event dates; its historical background alone does not indicate when it takes place.

The Festa do Salmón takes place on the third weekend in May. From Friday, bars in A Estrada prepare salmon tapas. The main tasting takes place on Sunday at the Novo Mercado stalls and in the neighbouring streets and squares. A Estrada is also known for organic cider, the Ruta de la Sidra and the Feria de la Sidra. Alongside salmon, these give local food culture its own distinctive focus. Check the specific dates if you are planning a trip around a festival.

Town Centre and Riverside Beach

The centre of A Estrada is pedestrianised, including the wine district, Praza da Feira, and Calvo Sotelo and Serafín Pazo streets. The main streets form an open-air shopping centre; there are also numerous terraces and an extensive wine district in the centre. The riverside beach on the Liñares provides a distinctive natural setting: the 24,000-square-metre green space includes an extensive oak woodland, seating, changing rooms, a bar, a children's play area and a lifeguard service.
