Rianxo offers different points of interest to focus on when planning a trip: coastal routes, literary heritage, architectural history and maritime traditions. The topics you would like to explore can be tied to specific routes and places—from the waterfront promenade to museums and historic buildings.

Coastal Routes and Getting Around

The Do paseo marítimo ata a praia da Torre route starts in the town centre and follows the waterfront promenade, with views of the Ría de Arousa. Beyond Praia da Torre, it can be continued along a path through coastal vegetation towards Punta de Iñobre and Peirao de Taragoña. The route as described therefore includes both the stretch beside the water and a possible continuation beyond the beach.

The Un paseo por Rianxo route follows a different course: it starts at Praza de Castelao and ends at Praia de Tanxil. These named endpoints set it apart from the route along the waterfront promenade and onwards towards Punta de Iñobre and Peirao de Taragoña. For a walk with a clearly stated destination, the first route offers Praia da Torre; the second links the square with Praia de Tanxil.

A building can also be located using a specific reference point: Igrexa de Santa Comba de Rianxo is about a 300 m walk from Praza de Castelao.

Literature, Museums and Architectural History

Casa de Manuel Antonio is the birthplace of the poet Manuel Antonio, who was born there in 1900. Since 2011, the house has been home to the Casa Museo de Manuel Antonio. Visitors can trace the life of the avant-garde poet there. The exhibition includes family furniture, photographs, letters, personal belongings, original documents and audiovisual material. The museum thus offers both biographical insights and a range of different keepsakes.

Museo do Mar de Rianxo is housed in an old building called Casa do coxo. It focuses on two maritime themes: the museum shows how traditional boats are built and explains how residents obtain food from the sea. Those interested in the relationship between boatbuilding and making a living from the sea will find a different focus here than at the literary museum.

The buildings also tell of different periods. The single-nave Igrexa de Santa Comba de Rianxo is made of granite and dates from the 15th century. Its portal was created in the 16th century and its tower in the 18th century. The present-day building of Pazo de Martelo, by contrast, was built in the late 17th or early 18th century, after an earlier building with a tower was demolished. Casa de Castelao is a typical urban building of Galician coastal towns from the late 19th or early 20th century; balconies and a gallery define its façade.

Castelo da Lúa is considered the only surviving medieval archaeological site in Rianxo. It was probably built in the 13th century by Paio Gómez Charino. Another distinctive structure is Hórreo do Araño: it is considered the longest granary in Galicia and the one with the greatest capacity. It stands beside Igrexa de Santa Baia. Since 1854, Capela da Virxe de Guadalupe has housed the revered image of the Virgin of Guadalupe, made by the religious brother Frei Xosé de Santiago, who was from Rianxo.

Festival and Landscape

Festividade da Virxe de Guadalupe is designated a Galician festival of tourist interest. Its main event is a maritime procession, during which more than 100 boats accompany the Moreniña aboard a sailing boat. A group song in Praza de Castelao provides the recurring finale; individual events may vary. Anyone planning to attend the festival should check the dates and current programme before travelling.

Another area of interest for nature lovers is the mouth of the River Ulla in Rianxo. It is distinguished by its unique surroundings and diverse flora and fauna. The range of interests therefore extends beyond routes, architecture and museums: the landscape and nature are also among the features of Rianxo mentioned here.
