Explore the hiking trail and landscape

The southern hiking trail to the Penedos de Pasarela e Traba begins in Pasarela, in the parish of Calo. The southern part of the protected landscape lies within the Vimianzo parishes of Calo and Salto, north of the rural settlements of Pasarela and O Penedo. This gives you two distinct points of reference: the trail’s exact starting point and the location of the southern part of the protected area. When planning your trip, you can first decide whether to focus on the trail itself or mainly on the views and individual rock formations.

Views and elevations

The Miradoiro da Torre da Moa viewpoint offers views of the Traba valley, the beach, the Traba lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean. The valley and lagoon can be considered alongside the beach and the Atlantic: the view takes in different features of the landscape. At 274 m, Torre da Moa is the highest point in the protected landscape.

Another elevation is given for Galla de Pena Forcada: the split boulder is 258 m high and marks the boundary between Vimianzo and Laxe. The figures for Torre da Moa and Galla de Pena Forcada describe different things: Torre da Moa is the highest point in the protected landscape, while the figure for Galla refers to the height of a single boulder. This distinction helps you understand the two figures when looking for distinctive landscape features.

Rock formations with distinctive features

Pedra do Barco is located on the Explanada da Ferida at the foot of the Cachucha summit. Pedra Abaladoira is a flat rock weighing several tonnes that can be moved by the weight of two or three people. Pedra Multiforme is considered one of the route’s most distinctive rock formations. These rocks are distinguished by their location, their movement or their distinctive shape.

Trail conditions and trip planning

The Penedos de Pasarela e Traba trail network uses traditional paths and rights of way, as noted in a 2021 description. Local conditions can change, so check the current route before setting out. This lets you take the trail’s route into account as a separate planning consideration alongside the view or rock formation that interests you most.

The Casa-escola Enrique Labarta Pose in Vimianzo was inaugurated in 1931. This historic school building offers a different focus from the rocky landscape and southern hiking trail. You can therefore choose your accommodation based on the mix of trails, views, rock formations and historical interest you would like.
