Rock art on the granite outcrop of O Pedrouzo, trails along the Tambre, and a route through the village shape the discoveries described in Oca. When planning, it is worth considering the location, access, and route length separately: the Petroglifo has its own access conditions, while each route has specific destinations and covers different stretches. This lets you treat rock art, riverside woodland, and the village passage as distinct highlights. Your choice also depends on whether you want to plan a visit to a single site or a sequence of trails with several sections.

Petroglifo de Oca on O Pedrouzo

The Petroglifo de Oca is located on the granite outcrop of O Pedrouzo, which offers excellent views of the surrounding area and the village of Oca. The rock carving and the landscape views go hand in hand here. The access route is not signposted and follows a forest track, which can sometimes be difficult to traverse because of vegetation. As conditions can change with vegetation growth and maintenance, check the state of the trail before your visit.

I Ruta do Apego: to the Tambre and the riverside woodland

The I Ruta do Apego includes a section of the Ruta das Ribeiras do Tambre in Lens and Oca. Its second section leads to the banks of the Tambre and ends in riverside woodland with fine examples of native trees. This out-and-back route is listed as 0.6 kilometers each way; these figures refer to the second section. The stage described in 2021 is not accessible to strollers or wheelchairs. Trail and accessibility conditions may change.

Ruta do Tambre: riverside walk and passage through the village

A historic description of the Ruta do Tambre starts at the river beach in Tapia. From there, it runs for about six kilometers along the left bank toward Ponte Maceira, passing near Oca and reaching the vicinity of Lens. At Lens, the route leaves the riverbank, heads back toward Oca, and leads downhill through the village to the Igrexa da Virxe do Corpiño. The route described therefore includes both a riverside section and a passage through Oca, rather than ending at the riverbank. A stone wayside cross stands near the Capela da Virxe do Corpiño.

Understanding the route distances

The route distances answer different questions: 0.6 kilometers each way refers to the second section of the I Ruta do Apego to the riverside woodland and back; about six kilometers refers to the riverside walk on the Ruta do Tambre toward Ponte Maceira. This figure is not the total distance to the Igrexa: at Lens, the route leaves the riverbank and returns via Oca. The route connections also differ. The I Ruta do Apego is a section of the Ruta das Ribeiras do Tambre, while the historic description of the Ruta do Tambre gives a separate route starting in Tapia. This lets you distinguish a short out-and-back walk from a longer riverside walk followed by a passage through the village.
