Uhía brings together several distinct travel interests: Uhía Beach in Esteiro, the listed heritage site of Cruceiro, the Enseada de Esteiro landscape with its coastal and hillside features, and viewpoints in the surrounding region.
Beach and Heritage
At Uhía Beach in Esteiro, you can sunbathe, swim and relax. The Cruceiro in Uhía is listed as a heritage site. These two points of interest appeal to different interests: the beach for activities by the water, and the Cruceiro for cultural heritage. A cruceiro is a stone religious monument in the form of a cross on a pillar or column.
Coastal Scenery and Trails
Near Uhía, the AC-550 road runs along the coast through the Enseada de Esteiro landscape. This landscape includes a habitat with Atlantic sea cliffs and a network of paths and trails on the hillsides. The coast, sea cliffs and hillside trails describe different aspects of the same regional landscape. The road provides a coastal connection, while the trail network brings the hillsides into focus as another feature of the landscape.
Circular Route and Pilgrimage Stage
The “Circular Esteiro - O Freixo” route starts and ends on the AC-550 at the level of Uhía Beach in Esteiro. It is about 11 kilometres long and passes through the municipalities of Muros and Outes. At the beginning of the loop, the “Ruta dos Muiños do Río Uhía” forms an 800-metre section. These figures refer to different scales: about 11 kilometres is the total length of the circular route, while 800 metres is the section at its beginning. The shorter section is therefore part of the start of the loop, not an additional distance to be added to its total length.
“Stage 2: Esteiro (Uhía) - Serra de Outes” is the second stage of the Muros-Noia-Santiago Way of St James. Its first section runs briefly through a eucalyptus forest and is unmarked. The route details therefore differ: the circular route has a stated total length of about 11 kilometres, while the stage number and the character of the beginning provide orientation for the pilgrimage stage. Since trail markings and vegetation can change, check the current route before setting out.
Choose Viewpoints by What You Want to See
The viewpoints can also be distinguished by what they offer. From Cabo Uía, visitors can see A Creba Island from the area around Uhía. Punta Uhía offers a wide panoramic view of the surroundings and is suitable for watching the sunset. Outeiro dos Foles is one of the points of special visual interest. If you want to see A Creba Island, Cabo Uía is the reference point; for a wide panorama and the sunset, consider Punta Uhía.
