The Senda Verde connects Bertamiráns with O Milladoiro; nearby, the municipal 8M circular route offers a different kind of trail. The Pazo da Peregrina and the A Maía valley near the town centre add their own highlights in architecture and landscape. When planning your trip, it is therefore worth considering whether you would like to focus on a linear connection, a local circular route, or primarily on cultural and landscape features.

Routes through Bertamiráns

The Senda Verde is a 12 km linear route of moderate difficulty connecting O Milladoiro and Bertamiráns. You can join or leave the route at several points along the way, making it possible to include just part of it in your plans. The route follows paths and new forest tracks through areas of notable cultural heritage and landscape value.

The municipal 8M circular route passes through Bertamiráns’s green spaces and starts and ends at the Pazo da Peregrina. It differs from the Senda Verde in its circular layout and its start and finish at the Pazo, whereas you can join or leave the Senda at several points. This gives you a choice between two different route types: a linear connection and a local loop.

Landscape and Nature

The A Maía valley lies near the town centre of Bertamiráns and is considered one of the most scenic areas in Ames. It is a river valley with riverside woodland, as well as areas used for farming and grazing. These areas are traces of the traditional agricultural system. A Maía thus combines river scenery with a cultivated agricultural landscape.

The area around the Sar is designated a Site of Community Importance (SCI) and is included in the Natura 2000 network.

Pazo and Culture

The Pazo da Peregrina is a complex comprising a main house, agricultural outbuildings, a chapel and a garden. It is also associated with Rosalía de Castro and her paternal family. This adds a specific historical connection to the architectural ensemble.

The Pazo is used as a venue for exhibitions, weddings and other events. The Auditorio de Bertamiráns is part of the Rede Galega de Teatros e Auditorios and offers a regular programme of performing arts. Together, they provide different cultural offerings: events at the Pazo and performing arts at the Auditorio.

Market and Festivals

A municipal notice dated 27 May 2026 lists the traditional street market on Saturday afternoons. It includes clothing and household goods, as well as cured meats, churros, vegetables and fruit. Times, arrangements and the product selection may change; check these details before planning a specific visit.

In 2026, Bertamiráns and Milladoiro celebrated their respective local festivals together for the fifth consecutive year. The “Ames en Festas” programme brought the Madalena and Peregrina festivals together in a joint ten-day programme of festivities in Bertamiráns and Milladoiro. If you plan a future visit, check the festival dates again.
