Murals throughout the town, prehistoric dolmens and routes connecting landscapes and culture offer different perspectives on Bohonal De Ibor. You can explore the streets, view buildings from different centuries or focus on archaeological heritage and hiking trails.

Murals and the Townscape

The Murales de Golondrinas are spread throughout the town and can be viewed on a walk. You can also explore Bohonal De Ibor street by street. Along the way, you’ll see houses that illustrate ways of life in the 18th and 19th centuries. The murals and the houses offer different perspectives on the townscape: here, you encounter art in public spaces; there, you get a sense of how people lived in earlier centuries.

Visitor attractions are divided into those that can be viewed from the outside and those that can be visited inside. Some are part of town walks, while others are along hiking trails. This distinction helps you choose your focus: would you prefer to explore the town, or include a route in your plans?

Church, Bridge and Mill

The Iglesia de San Bartolomé was built from granite between the 15th and 16th centuries. Another structure is the Puente de las Veredas, dating from the 14th to 15th centuries. It lies along the route of a Cañada Real, a royal livestock track. The church and bridge represent different historical contexts: one is a granite religious building, while the other is part of a route used for moving livestock.

The Molino de las Veredas used the river’s current to grind grain brought by pack animals. This example brings the process of transport and milling to life: the animals carried the grain to the mill, and the current provided the power to grind it.

Dolmens and Routes

There are numerous prehistoric dolmens in the municipality, particularly in the area around El Pibor. The Dolmen del Pibor dates from the 3rd to 2nd millennium BC. This archaeological heritage therefore reaches far beyond the centuries reflected in the church, bridge and mill.

The Senda El Pibor leads to the area where the Ibor and Tajo rivers meet. It combines a landscape experience with prehistoric cultural heritage, including the Dolmen del Pibor. A section of the Camino Natural del Tajo begins in Bohonal De Ibor and follows the CC-19 road to the Ibor River near the Puente de las Veredas. The route descriptions therefore have different focuses: the Senda El Pibor is associated with the confluence and archaeological heritage, while the Camino Natural section starts in Bohonal De Ibor and ends near the bridge. Check the latest route information before setting out.

Traditions and Activities

The RomerĂa Virgen de Guadalupe has been celebrated in Bohonal De Ibor since the end of the 20th century. Its dates can vary from year to year. At the beginning of May, a large depiction of a Celtic cross is erected in the square; this, too, is part of a longstanding tradition. If you would like to plan your trip around one of these traditions, check the date before you travel.

There are suitable places for sport fishing in the municipality, where fishing competitions attract a large audience. If you would like to fish yourself, check the applicable requirements in advance.
