La Pineda brings together several distinct highlights for trip planning: coastline, nature watching and cultural history. The beach, which is more than three kilometres long, shapes a stay by the sea; the Séquia Major is a protected coastal wetland. There is also a new promenade, a municipal park opposite the beach, a historic Santuari and a group of sculptures with a literary connection. So first consider whether beach time, a pre-arranged nature visit or cultural and historical sites will shape your days.

Beach, Promenade and Park

La Pineda beach is more than three kilometres long and has fine, golden-coloured sand. The water at the beach is calm and clear, with a very gentle slope.

The beach and promenade are adapted for people with reduced mobility and are accessible. Facilities include several accessible routes from the Paseo to the sand and the water’s edge, reserved parking spaces, pedestrian crossings and an amphibious chair. If this infrastructure is important to your plans, check its condition locally before your visit.

The new promenade offers routes for pedestrians and cyclists, wooden walkways and areas to relax. This gives you several ways to enjoy your time on the coast: you can set aside time for a walk or cycle ride and plan a break in one of the relaxing areas. Parc del Pinar de Perruquet is a 2.5-hectare municipal park opposite the beach. This means you can include a dedicated park as well as the coastal area when deciding what to visit.

Nature Visit at the Séquia Major

The Séquia Major is a coastal wetland in La Pineda and has been protected under the Pla d'Espais d'Interès Natural de Catalunya since 1993. This makes a nature visit quite different from a day at the beach: the focus is on the wetland’s history and natural value.

The annual visits to the Séquia Major include a circular route of about two kilometres, lasting approximately two hours. Along the way, visitors learn about the area’s history and natural value, interpret animal tracks, and observe birds and protected species. Advance booking is required. The meeting point is the main entrance at Plaça de la Cançó Catalana in La Pineda. Check the contact and meeting-point details, as well as the seasonal programme, again before making plans.

Santuari and Marca d’Aigua

The Santuari de la Mare de Déu de La Pineda adds another period to the area’s history. It was built around the second half of the 13th century. Restoration and extension work took place later, from 1712 to 1758. This timeline helps distinguish the sanctuary’s origins from a later phase of construction.

The Marca d’Aigua sculpture group adds another, both literary and historical, dimension. It is located south of La Pineda beach and honours the writer and poet Carles Barral. Part of the group is situated on a restored bunker-fort from the Spanish Civil War. While the Santuari’s history can be traced through its phases of construction, Marca d’Aigua combines a tribute to an author with a physical link to the history of the Civil War.
