In Sant Llorenç de Morunys, the town’s medieval history and practical trail options go hand in hand. The differences are clear when planning: the Camí Verd de la Vall de Lord is listed as taking four hours of walking time, excluding breaks; the Ruta de les pomeres is a 3.35-kilometre loop, classified as easy and suitable for families. There are also cultural sites, cycling routes and kayaking at the Llosa del Cavall reservoir.

Old Town and Architectural History

The old town has medieval origins. Part of the portico has been preserved at Plaça Major; it also retains five former gates in the town walls. Under the portico and at the church portal, you can see ceilings made of shaped plaster, which were restored a few years ago.

The church of Sant Llorenç de Morunys is a fine example of 11th-century Lombard Romanesque architecture. It was declared a historic-artistic monument in 1976. Its cloister was added in the 16th century. The town’s history thus brings together medieval origins and architectural additions from later centuries.

Culture in the Vall de Lord

The Museu-Centre d'Interpretació de la Vall de Lord displays cultural objects and other elements of cultural heritage that explain the entire history of the Vall de Lord. Sant Llorenç de Morunys is described as the historic capital of the Vall de Lord.

The town’s textile past is also part of its cultural identity. The Fira del Drap Piteu is a festival with a medieval theme that revives this past through the Drap Piteu.

A religious tradition dates back to the 13th century: two Benedictine monks from the monastery of Sant Llorenç and a shepherd are said to have found the image of the Mare de Déu dels Colls on a hill near the hermitage of Mare de Déu dels Àngels. The image was formerly called Mare de Déu del Coll. The story should be understood explicitly as a tradition and offers a different perspective on local history alongside the town’s architectural history.

Routes by Length and Trail

The Camí Verd de la Vall de Lord runs from Sant Llorenç de Morunys along the Cardener River to its source. The route is just over 14.5 kilometres long. The stated walking time for the round trip is four hours in total: two hours to the source and two hours back. Breaks are additional to this walking time.

A shorter circular route is the 3.35-kilometre Ruta de les pomeres. It is classified as easy and suitable for families. Along the route, you can explore the surroundings of Sant Llorenç de Morunys and several organic apple orchards in fields near the town.

La Creueta and Els Torrents both start and finish at the Vall de Lord tourist office, but follow different trails. La Creueta loops around the built-up area of Sant Llorenç de Morunys, passes through the Barranc de les Salines and returns to the starting point. Els Torrents takes you through the forests around the town. The circular Ruta santuari de Lord pel tossal de Vallonga also starts and ends in Sant Llorenç de Morunys.

Cycling and Getting There

The Centre BTT Vall de Lord offers nine signposted routes covering a total of 148 kilometres. Its reception point is in Sant Llorenç de Morunys. The Llosa del Cavall reservoir is a named location for kayaking and other adventure sports.

The C-462 road connects Solsona with Sant Llorenç de Morunys and passes the Llosa del Cavall dam. This makes it possible to consider the town’s cultural activities, designated walking routes and regional cycling options as separate interests during your stay, rather than combining them into a single outing.
