Fulleda brings together several highlights for a short trip of discovery: a viewpoint with views of the southern side of the Pyrenees on clear days, trails, wine and historic buildings. When planning your stay, you can first decide whether to focus on the landscape, an event date or the local heritage.
Landscape and trails
The western half of the Ruta dels miradors i les fonts de Fulleda runs through the protected natural area of Vall de Vinaixa, which is part of the European Union’s Natura 2000 network. The Mirador dels Pirineus is 700 metres from the route’s starting point. On clear days, it offers far-reaching views of the southern side of the Pyrenees. The GR-3 is also one of the routes available in Fulleda.
Wine and Fira Heroica
Celler Matallonga’s seasonal premium experience includes a visit to the winery and vineyards, as well as a premium tasting of selected Matallonga wines and local products. The tasting takes place among vineyards surrounded by the forests of Fulleda. Visits to Celler Matallonga must be booked in advance and confirmed by the winery team.
Fira Heroica takes place in Fulleda on the third Sunday in September. It is dedicated to Agustina d’Aragó. The programme includes workshops, historical re-enactments, guided tours of various local sights, games and communal meals. The programme may vary from one edition to the next; if you plan to travel for the festival, check the details for the specific edition.
Local history and heritage
Fulleda has a monument to Agustina d’Aragó, a heroine of the Spanish War of Independence; her parents were from Fulleda. Her name is therefore commemorated both at an annual festival and at a permanent monument.
On the outskirts of the village, almost 300 metres in the direction of Tarrés, the Racó del Bolet monument commemorates five children aged 12 to 16. They died on 12 February 1939 during the Spanish Civil War when an abandoned box of bombs exploded. The monument was inaugurated on 9 February 2014. The cooperative associated with the Antic Molà d’oli in Fulleda also has a specific founding date: it was established in 1957.
The Church of Santa Maria dates from the early 14th century and is a late Romanesque building in transition to Gothic. It has a single nave and a pointed barrel vault. At the head of its original structure is a three-arched bell gable. During restoration work in 1986, part of the former Romanesque portal was uncovered.
