There are several ways to plan a stay in Colera, focusing on water sports and the coast, outdoor trails, or architectural and cultural heritage. Highlights include a pebble cove, a panoramic viewpoint, a Romanesque church, a dolmen and an iron railway viaduct. When planning, you can decide whether to spend more time on activities by the water or on the landscape and history.
Water sports and the coast
Colera's water sports and leisure activities include sailing, water skiing, kayaking, surfing, sport fishing, Llagut boat trips and diving. The availability of individual activities may change. If you are planning a stay around the water, you can choose from a range of activities rather than limiting yourself to just one.
Cala Rovellada is a pebble cove that is easy to reach on foot or by car. Check local access conditions before visiting. Two other stretches of coast are in the Colera area: rocks and vegetation shape the natural surroundings of Platja del Borró d'Enfora, which is also suitable for anchoring boats. Platja del Borró de dins (petita de Garbet) can be reached by boat, on foot or by car. Parking and access conditions may vary seasonally.
Different considerations apply when choosing between these coastal spots: the rocky, vegetation-rich surroundings and anchoring are key features of Borró d'Enfora. At Borró de dins, the listed ways of getting there provide a guide; bear in mind that parking and access may change seasonally when planning your visit.
Trails and landscape
There are various walking and cycling routes from Colera. Along with the water sports, they offer different ways to spend time outdoors: you can focus on activities by the water or on getting around on foot and by bike.
Veta Blanca is a panoramic viewpoint in the La Rovellada area. The area of Albera with the greatest geological interest lies around Puig d'Esquers, in the municipalities of Llançà and Colera. The site of the Dolmen del Puig d'Esquers is also notable for its landscape: it offers exceptional views across the Empordà.
Church, dolmen and architectural history
The Ermita de Sant Miquel is a Romanesque church dating from the 12th to 13th centuries. It has a nave and a semicircular apse. The nave is the church's main lengthwise space; the apse forms the semicircular end. These two architectural features give a concrete sense of the church's basic form without requiring any specialist knowledge of architecture.
The Dolmen del Puig d'Esquers is a Neolithic passage grave with a narrow, pentagonal chamber. It was built between 3200 and 3000 BC. Together with the church, it offers a wide span of history to explore, from the Neolithic tomb to Romanesque architecture of the 12th or 13th century. The dolmen combines archaeological form with views across the Empordà.
The Pont del Ferrocarril was built by the Eiffel company in 1878. It is an iron viaduct 188 m long and 20 m high. Its date and dimensions provide a brief technical overview and distinguish this structure from the church and dolmen in terms of both period and construction. There are two cannons at Els canons.
