Olost lies in a small valley through which the Riera d’Olost flows. The town offers several specific themes to help you plan your trip: church architecture and local history, routes along waterways and historic drovers’ roads, and events centred on cheese and transhumància. You can focus on architectural history, the landscape or an event date.

Churches and local history

The current church of Santa Maria d’Olost is neoclassical and dates from the late 18th century. Its two identical octagonal bell towers give the building a distinctive feature. The Ermita de Sant Adjutori was completed in 1717. It overlooks the valley and offers panoramic views of Olost.

The historic centre has numerous houses with dated lintels above their doorways. Most date from the 18th and 19th centuries; some examples date back to the 17th century. Together with the church and the Ermita, they offer different ways to explore Olost’s architectural history.

Water, woods and routes

The Pantà de Rexach was built in 1945 and is more than 1.5 kilometres long. The composition of the woods also shapes the landscape: they consist mainly of oaks, black pines and Scots pines, with some areas of holm oaks as well.

The routes offer different points of interest. The Ruta Saludable Ruta del Molí i les Hortes follows the Riera past traditional vegetable gardens and passes the Molí de les Escases. The Route de l’aigua amb història connects Olost and Santa Creu de Jutglar, following the historic Transversal and Central drovers’ roads. The descriptions therefore focus, respectively, on the watercourse, gardens and mill, and on the link between two towns via historic drovers’ roads.

The challenging BTT El Sorreigs mountain-bike route follows the Espai d’Interès Natural del Sorreigs and passes through three municipalities. There are old mills, springs and pools, as well as a wide variety of animal and plant species. This makes it easy to distinguish between routes focused on water and gardens, historic drovers’ roads and challenging mountain biking.

Experience history

The Centre d’Interpretació Perot Rocaguinarda presents the historical, literary and legendary dimensions of the bandit Perot Rocaguinarda through texts, images, objects and audiovisual projections. The Espai Rocaguinarda also houses an escape-room experience for groups. Visits to the Centre must be arranged in advance; check beforehand whether a visit is currently possible.

Fairs and bread

The Fira del Formatge de Pastor i Llet Crua takes place on the first Sunday in October and offers raw-milk cheese made from cow’s, goat’s and sheep’s milk. Check the date for your travel year. The Fira de la Transhumància offers a different focus: its programme includes food stalls, walks, a communal breakfast, workshops, games and music. The programme can vary from one edition to another, so check the details for the specific edition if you are planning activities.

At Forn Sant Adjutori, visitors can learn how bread is made. Arrange your visit in advance.
