La Llagosta brings together several themes to consider when planning a trip: the history of Masia Can Baqué, recurring traditions of local associations, and a river landscape with ecologically interesting riverbanks. Getting there is also straightforward to factor in: Rodalies lines R2 and R2 Nord stop at the railway station. This means you can consider both the focus of your stay and your rail connection when planning.
Masia Can Baqué and the town’s history
Can Baqué is an architectural testament to more than 700 years of history and recalls the origins of La Llagosta. In 2011, the masia was classified as a Bé Cultural d’Interès Local (BCIL), a Local Cultural Heritage Site. The property’s connections to the families associated with it offer particular insight into local history: its first owners were the Jover family, and the Vaquer family worked as masoveros (farm managers) in the 14th century. Can Baqué thus offers a glimpse into rural life and the different roles associated with a masia.
Other historic properties and places also form part of the town’s heritage. The historic Hostal La Llebre is on Carrer de Vic, along the former royal road. Masia Can Pere Gil is considered a significant rural property because of its historical value and is located near the municipal boundary with Mollet del Vallès. Together, these names offer another way to explore the municipality’s rural history, without suggesting that they share the same history as Can Baqué.
Dance and local associations throughout the year
Ball de Gitanes is a traditional dance form of the Vallès region. In La Llagosta, it is performed from around Carnival until the end of May; this period also includes the dance groups’ gathering in Montserrat. The Grup de Ball de Gitanes de la Llagosta also organizes the Homenatge a Catalunya every year as part of the Festa Major. The tradition dates back to its first event on 11 September 1986. The group usually holds another dance event in April. If you want to plan your stay around an event, check the specific dates before travelling.
The Colla Gegantera also contributes to local association life with gatherings centered on giant figures. The group also takes part in parades and activities organized by other local associations. Each year in autumn, it organizes a fundraising event for La Marató de 3Cat. In recent years, Zumba Gegant has been the main format, attracting more than 300 people. These events differ in purpose and format: dance traditions, parades and community activities each offer a distinct perspective on local association life.
River landscape and natural area
La Llagosta’s natural area is bounded by the Riera de Caldes and Riera Seca streams and the Besòs River. The riverbanks are home to a wide variety of flora and fauna. Birdlife is also a special focus for nature enthusiasts: despite pressure from major infrastructure, the so-called Pollancredes retain very high ecological interest, particularly for ornithology.
The landscape offers a different focus from the history of the masia and association events. If you are interested in nature and birdlife, you can consider these themes alongside cultural traditions when planning your trip. Descriptions of the riverbanks and the Pollancredes highlight different aspects: the diversity of flora and fauna on the one hand, and the Pollancredes’ particular importance for ornithology on the other.
Getting there and a local market
La Llagosta railway station is served by Rodalies lines R2 and R2 Nord. The R2 connects Granollers Centre and Castelldefels; the R2 Nord runs between Maçanet-Massanes and Aeroport. Check timetables and possible disruptions before setting off. If you are planning to stay overnight in La Llagosta, the station is a useful reference point for your arrival and departure; you can consider the places, masias and nature themes mentioned here as the focus of your stay, independently of that.
The centrally located Mercat Municipal is another way to get a feel for what the town has to offer. It sells fresh food and other products. Alongside the historical and landscape themes, it helps make for a trip plan that is not focused solely on events: you can also explore local history, nature or the market, and look for accommodation in La Llagosta.
