Four Rutas de las medianĂas offer panoramic views of chestnut groves, vineyards and other cultivated land in the mid-altitude areas, as well as Mount Teide, the coast and the island’s northern sea. Together with protected landscapes, historic sites and local crafts, they offer a multifaceted picture of La Victoria de Acentejo.
Landscapes Between the Mid-Altitude Areas and the North Coast
The Las Lagunetas protected landscape area extends over 3,800 hectares and includes La Victoria de Acentejo, Santa Ăšrsula, El Sauzal, Tacoronte, El Rosario and Candelaria. The Las Palomas special nature reserve is smaller, at 584 hectares; it spans La Victoria de Acentejo and Santa Ăšrsula. Both areas show that protected landscapes here vary in size and geographical scope.
One notable viewpoint is Mirador de la Sabina. It is located on the municipality’s cliff within the Costa de Acentejo protected landscape area and offers panoramic views of Tenerife’s rugged north coast. The Rutas de las medianĂas offer a different perspective: views across cultivated land in the mid-altitude areas extend to Mount Teide and the sea. Those wishing to combine scenic views and cultural history during their stay will find a range of themes here without needing to combine them into a single route.
Church, Convent and Historic Sites
The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación was built in 1537. On 20 December 1985, the Government of the Canary Islands protected it as an Asset of Cultural Interest in the Monuments category. Behind the church stands the Pino Centenario: the tree witnessed the defeat of the Guanches and served as a bell tower for the first Mass after the battle.
The Barranco de Acentejo is also protected as an Asset of Cultural Interest, in the Historic Site category. In 1494, it was the site of the Castilians’ defeat by the Guanches. Together with the cliff and protected landscape areas, it offers a different perspective on the town: alongside natural scenery, the island’s history is another theme to explore here.
The Ermita y ex convento de Santo Domingo is a 17th-century hermitage that preserves a traditional Canarian wine press. The former Santo Domingo convent served as a rest stop for Dominican friars travelling between Santa Cruz and Isla Baja. The present-day building of the Calvario de La Victoria houses a small group of sculptures of considerable historical value.
Crafts, Museum and Wine-Making Traditions
The Museo etnográfico presents local culture and traditions through exhibits on pottery, embroidery and cutwork, palm crafts, and traditional clothing. It is housed in two small buildings of traditional Canarian architecture and is located near the El Palmeral recreational area. Craft traditions are also evident in the production of pottery and cutwork, as well as in the popular Victoria chairs. These crafts are almost always made by women.
The guachinches of La Victoria de Acentejo are part of its culinary character. They serve wine from their own harvest, made by the farmer using traditional methods, along with typical dishes. This adds a wine-making tradition closely linked to local agriculture to the area’s cultural offerings.
Routes by Car and Mountain Bike
The Rutas de las medianĂas are designed for travel by car; their duration is estimated at around 15 minutes from the motorway access. The BC-1: Ruta Norte mountain-bike route covers a different scale. Its main route is 84.852 kilometres long, with another 53.255 kilometres of branches and variants. The route crosses the higher areas of La Victoria de Acentejo and Santa Ăšrsula. The figures therefore clearly differ in terms of mode of transport and route length; no connection between the routes is implied.
An initiative published in July 2026 also proposes the cultural route “Pueblo y paisaje de creación.” It leads visitors to twelve sculptures by Julio Nieto at various locations in La Victoria de Acentejo. These include “Evolution,” “Hoja de Parra” and “Cruz de San Juan.” As visiting arrangements may still be evolving, it is advisable to check them before visiting.
