The facilities of a fish-canning factory that operated in the 20th century have been preserved and are now used for a different purpose. The history of fish processing and the change in use add a historical dimension to Alcalá’s coastal character. Recurring events include an annual Christmas and gospel concert, with a performance at the Centro Cultural de Alcalá. A local celebration in honour of the Virgin of Candelaria includes, among other things, a fireworks display and is held as a recurring festival.
