Puerto de las Nieves brings together a pebble beach and natural pools, a striking rocky coastline, and the festival and cultural heritage surrounding Nuestra Señora de las Nieves. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing between the experiences: conditions at the sea vary on the day, while the annual festival dates are fixed and the exact programme should be checked in advance.

Beach, Natural Pools and the Sea

Playa de Las Nieves is a pebble beach in front of the current pier. The water is calm; the beach is considered easy to access and a place for swimming and water sports. Playa is known for its crystal-clear water, although water conditions can vary by season. You should therefore check locally which water sports are available.

The natural pools of Las Salinas offer a different kind of coastline. Three pools are connected by tunnels. Divers can observe the local marine flora and fauna in them. Las Salinas can be reached on foot from Avenida Paseo de los Poetas; access conditions can change, so check them locally before you travel.

The Las Merinas dive site has its own distinctive features: rocks rise to the surface, and the site is a few metres from the beach and close to the Dedo de Dios natural monument. Connected passages and short canyons shape the dive. Before diving, find out about current conditions and whether the site is suitable.

Rock Formations and Trails

Dedo de Dios, also called Roque Partido, is a rock formation separated from the surrounding rock mass and is considered the most characteristic sight in Puerto de las Nieves. The cliffs also define the area: they rise from the sea to the Pinar de Tamadaba. This puts the distinctive rock formations and coastline at the centre, without assuming a specific viewpoint or route.

For those interested in hiking, there is a named long-distance trail: the GR® 131 was officially approved for the Puerto de Las Nieves – Pico de Las Nieves – Playa del Burrero route. The publication appeared in the Boletín Oficial de Canarias in April 2025. Check current trail conditions before hiking. Water sports such as surfing, windsurfing, diving and sailing are also available in Puerto de las Nieves; options depend on sea conditions and local providers.

Festival, Museum and Cultural Heritage

The festival days in honour of Nuestra Señora de las Nieves are on 4 and 5 August. During the Bajada de la Rama on 4 August, dancers carry branches to the Virgen de las Nieves shrine while dancing. The following day, 5 August, the Villa’s main festival is celebrated; the image is housed in the chapel in Puerto de las Nieves. The fiestas in honour of Nuestra Señora de las Nieves were declared a Festival of National Tourist Interest in 1972. If your trip coincides with these dates, check the exact festival programme in advance.

The Museo de la Rama presents the history, traditions and music of the fiesta, displays images of the celebration and exhibits typical elements such as the PapagĂĽevos. Visitor arrangements can change; check current options before planning a museum visit.

The Ermita de las Nieves also connects the area with its history: it was built in the second half of the 16th century at the behest of Antón Cerezo. The Ermita also houses a 16th-century Flemish triptych known as the “Tríptico de Ntra. Sra. de las Nieves”. The Paseo de los Poetas runs through Puerto de las Nieves and is dedicated to the modernist writers Alonso Quesada, Tomás Morales and Saulo Torón.

Agaete’s Seafood Cuisine

Restaurants in Puerto de las Nieves offer the chance to enjoy typical Agaete seafood dishes. These include fish broth, fresh grilled fish, Viejas, grilled sardines and paella marinera. The dishes offered by individual restaurants can vary. This gives the cuisine its own place in your trip planning, alongside coastal and cultural experiences.
