Bujanda lies at the confluence of the Izkiz River and the Barranco de la Parra. The river landscape, paths, architecture and religious history offer different focuses for your trip. First, consider which of these themes is most important for your stay.

River Landscape and Paths

A regional point of reference is Izki Natural Park. Designated in 1998, it covers 9,143 hectares and features great landscape diversity. From the northern part of the natural park, Bujanda can be reached via the A-132 road (Vitoria–Estella). Check road conditions before setting out.

The Senda Bujanda follows the river between the limestone walls of La Muela and Soila. Bujanda also has a circular route through stands of centuries-old Pyrenean oaks. The routes described offer different highlights: along the Senda, the river course and limestone walls shape the landscape, while the circular route takes you through old oak stands. The condition and signage of the circular route may change; check them before setting out.

Church, Coats of Arms and Local History

The portal of the parish church of the Assumption dates from the 13th century and has a double pointed arch. The tower of the same church is Baroque and was built between the 17th and 18th centuries. These dates refer to different parts of the building: the medieval portal and the later tower.

The incorrupt body of San Fausto Labrador, regarded as the patron saint of fertility, rests in the parish church. Houses with coats of arms on their façades are also part of Bujanda’s cultural heritage. Among others, the coats of arms of the Sagasti and Arrietas y Castillos families can be found there. Religious tradition, architectural history and family coats of arms thus offer different ways to explore the town’s history.

Activities and Dates

NatourinG is an initiative based in Bujanda that organizes leisure and educational activities in natural settings. These include guided educational walks in nature, as well as events and themed days covering culture, history and the humanities. Bujanda’s patron saint festivities are listed as taking place on the weekend closest to 14 October. The Día de la Concordia in Bujanda is given as 14 October. A San Fausto pilgrimage associated with Bujanda is listed as taking place on the first weekend of July in Alguaire (Catalonia). Check the exact dates and whether the events are actually taking place in the year you plan to travel. The festival weekend is based around 14 October; the Día de la Concordia is given as taking place on that exact date.
