At the end of Sant Tomàs beach, a small pier extends into the water and offers views of the coast. As maintenance work may lead to changes, check the condition of the pier before visiting. Naturism is possible in one section of the beach; usage regulations may change.
Beaches with Different Characteristics
At Sant Tomàs beach, parasols and sun loungers as well as water sports equipment are available to rent. Showers, foot-washing stations, rubbish bins, a cleaning service and a telephone are also among the facilities provided. Individual services may vary by season. So if these facilities are important to your plans, take the seasonal nature of the services into account.
Binigaus beach is easily accessible from the Sant Tomàs development; access conditions may change with coastal management. Its sandy beach is about 900 metres long, although the shoreline measurements may vary slightly. Vegetation reaches the beach. Atalis is much smaller: its sandy beach is about 30 metres long and lies at the beginning of Son Bou beach.
A coastal path about 1,250 metres long leads from Sant Tomàs beach to Atalis beach. Path conditions may change; check them before setting out. This gives you a choice between two beaches of different sizes, while the path to Atalis has a specific coastal destination.
Coastal Trails and Landscape
The Sant Tomàs–Son Bou route runs along a low, almost flat coastline. Near Sant Tomàs, Talis and Son Bou, it passes through areas with dune vegetation. The route also crosses the bottom of the Barranc de Sa Vall, offering a glimpse of the lush vegetation typical of the wetlands of Prat de Son Bou. Conditions in the wetland vary seasonally.
The two trails have different focuses: the coastal path to Atalis leads to a beach destination; the Sant Tomàs–Son Bou route is defined by its coastal course, dune vegetation and the Barranc. This distinction can help you choose a route based on the landscape you want to experience, without treating the two routes as the same.
Culture and Geology in Es Migjorn Gran
The monumental Talayotic settlement of Sant Agustí is located in the municipality of Es Migjorn Gran. The site comprises two talayots, up to eight Talayotic houses and seven structures with features resembling taula enclosures. These architectural forms give a specific impression of the site's diversity, without reducing it to a single structure.
Also in the municipality, in the Barranc de Binigaus, lies the karst cave Cova des Coloms. It was formed by underground watercourses that eroded the limestone. Alongside the coastal trails, archaeological and geological sites are therefore part of the regional picture of Es Migjorn Gran; the cave and the settlement are distinct places, each with a different focus.
When choosing a destination, you can weigh up beach facilities, coastal trails and insights into cultural and landscape features. The beach information refers to the beaches named in each case; the routes differ in their specific destination or described coastal course.
