Sant Miguel De Balansat brings together a striking fortified church, jewelry making and the Balansat Trail PR-EI-106. The church, the monument in the square and the jewelry workshop are located in Sant Miquel de Balansat; the beach, water sports, boat trips and the cave are in the nearby area of Port de Sant Miquel. This distinction helps you plan culture in the village and coastal activities in the surrounding area as separate parts of your trip.

A fortified church with distinctive architecture

The fortified church of Sant Miquel de Balansat was built in the 16th century on the rocky outcrop known as “Puig de Missa” to keep watch over the area. It combines religious and defensive functions; its thick walls are decorated with murals. It is also the only church on Ibiza with a T-shaped floor plan.

Cultural events throughout the year

The patron saint’s festivities in Sant Miquel de Balansat take place on 29 September. During the summer months, the Sant Miquel craft market is held every Thursday afternoon. At Puig de Missa, from May to September, there is a demonstration of Ibizan folklore every Thursday at 6:00 p.m., featuring traditional dance and a small craft market. Check the dates for your travel dates in advance if you plan to attend one of these events.

Monument and jewelry making

A small square in Sant Miquel de Balansat is home to a viewpoint and a bronze statue honoring the Ibizan poet Marià Villangómez (1913–2002). The statue was created by Basque sculptor Lourdes Umérez. Next to the church are the studio, shop and jewelry workshop of designer Natasha Collis. Unique handmade jewelry is designed in her workshop; the shop is located in a farmhouse more than 300 years old.

Hiking trail and coastal surroundings

The Balansat Trail PR-EI-106 runs for 18.82 kilometers between Port de Sant Miquel beach and the village of Sant Miquel de Balansat. The route includes stretches of road, paved paths and unpaved paths; it also offers panoramic views of Es Amunts. The trail’s length, varied surfaces and viewpoints are practical details to consider when planning a hike. Check current trail conditions before your visit.

Port de Sant Miquel, also known as Port de Balansat, is in the vicinity of Sant Miquel de Balansat and has a coarse-sand beach about 100 meters long. Water sports and boat trips are available at the port. Also located there is Cova de Can Marçà, around 100,000 years old, inside a cliff. A guided visit to the cave lasts about 40 minutes; if you plan to visit, check the current opening times.
