Stone arches, historic buildings, and a river landscape give Brieves a distinct cultural and scenic character. The arches connect houses with hórreos and paneras; at the same time, the village lies in a valley formed by the Esva and Llorín rivers. Route information adds practical guidance for finding your way around.

Architectural heritage in Brieves

Brieves is designated as an ethnographic ensemble. Hórreos and paneras are traditional agricultural storage buildings; the stone arches connect them to houses, illustrating the relationship between rural living and agricultural use. The Torre de Brieves dates from the 16th century. The Torre Medieval de los Avella-Fuertes is listed in Asturias’s cultural heritage inventory for Valdés, Brieves; its identifier is IPCA-EI-34-51, and the entry is dated July 25, 2018. The cultural focus therefore encompasses both the ensemble and specific historical landmarks.

River landscape and protected areas

Brieves is notable for its rich river meadows and paths lined with beautiful, brightly colored flowers. The village lies in the valley formed by the Esva and Llorín rivers. Another geographically specific landscape feature is the stretch from San Pedru (Paredes) to Brieves (La Chanona), which lies within the Esva Basin Protected Landscape. If landscape is a priority when planning your trip, you can take into account both local features and this stretch’s protected-area designation.

Routes with different directions

The Ruta Trevías – Brieves – Valle de Paredes driving route is approximately 27 kilometers long and runs from Trevías to Ovienes. From Brieves, it climbs toward Valle de Paredes. The approximate distance and direction from Brieves provide two concrete points of reference for planning.

The Ruta Trevías – Brieves – Muñás – Arcallana offers another way to orient yourself. It runs from Trevías to Brieves; at Brieves, it turns onto the AS-222 toward Muñás. Comparing the routes, the first has an approximate length, while the second specifies a turn and its direction. This can help you decide whether the overall distance of the first route or the road direction toward Muñás is more useful for your plans. Before driving, check the current route of the AS-222, as road layouts can change.

Brieves is also a stop along one branch of the Camino de Santiago. In addition to the road routes, the village can therefore be viewed in the context of a pilgrimage route. The different route connections offer different perspectives on Brieves without needing to be combined into a single route.

A historical event

The traditional Nature and Crafts Fair is also part of the village’s history. In 2023, RTPA reported that the fair had been held annually and had reached its 19th edition that year. If you would like to plan a visit around this event, check future dates separately.
