The mountain route from Sardea (Sardeda) to Alto de La Llama passes through the Sierra del Sueve to Majada de Espineres. Stone huts and stables shape the landscape there, some of them very well preserved. There are also walks to an old mill and waterfalls, as well as religious and horse-related festival traditions. Sardeda thus offers a variety of ways to discover the landscape and cultural life of the village.

Mountain Trails Through the Sierra del Sueve

The mountain route from Sardea (Sardeda) to Alto de La Llama passes through Caserío de Paraes and Majada de Espineres. It runs entirely through the Sierra del Sueve, is 9 km long and takes 3 hours and 30 minutes. Its difficulty level is moderate. Collada de Ovies is the highest point on the route.

Clear days and carrying a GPS are recommended for this route: sudden fog can make it difficult to find your way. Check the weather and local route conditions before setting out.

Another hike, “El extremo meridional del Sueve desde Sardea,” offers a circular route at the southern end of the Sierra del Sueve, starting from the area around Sardea. It reaches the summit of Picu los Cuervos, where there is a summit log box and a distinctive summit cross. The route, described in 2019, may have changed in terms of trail and weather conditions, so it is advisable to check the latest information before setting out.

The “Pico Tiegu desde Sardeda Sierra del Sueve” route is considered easy and follows a reasonably well-marked trail to the foot of Pico Tiegu. The route information dates from 2015, so check the condition of the trail before setting out.

Waterfalls and the Old Mill

The “Cascada del molino de Sardeda” hike leads to Molín de Sardea, an old watermill with a small bridge. There are up to three waterfalls behind the mill. The main waterfall is about 3 to 4 metres high and falls into a pool. Water levels and appearance can vary depending on the season.

The hike to Cascada del molino de Sardea is considered extremely short, easy and suitable for families. By contrast, the 9 km mountain route, which takes 3 hours and 30 minutes and has a moderate difficulty level, is a very different hike. The area near the waterfall can be very slippery due to persistent dampness and mud. Check the condition of the trail before your visit.

Festivals in Sardeda and Majada de Espineres

The Fiesta del Asturcón takes place in Majada de Espineres and honours the Asturcón horse. It has been held annually for more than 35 years and celebrates the recovery of the horse population. The festival programme includes an open-air mass, award ceremonies, a demonstration of branding and taming the horses, a communal outdoor meal and Asturian music. Majada de Espineres is also a stop on the route from Sardea to Alto de La Llama.

The Fiesta de San Justo y San Pastor in Sardea (Sardeda) includes a solemn mass followed by a procession through the village. It also features the auction of the Ramu, a decorated frame bearing bread. The festival ends with a verbena; the celebrations take place again the following year. If a festival is the reason for your trip, check the specific event date.
