Situated at the foot of La Jorcada, Los Callejos offers views of the Central Massif of the Picos de Europa and Naranjo de Bulnes. Here, the landscape can be combined with trails whose descriptions name different starting points and landmarks. When choosing a place to stay, three specific questions may therefore help: Would you mainly like to get your bearings in the mountain scenery, choose one of the trails described, or also discover the village’s cultural points of interest?

Landscape and location

La Jorcada is the immediate geographical reference point: Los Callejos lies at its foot. The views also extend to the Central Massif of the Picos de Europa and Naranjo de Bulnes. These names give the landscape a clearly defined orientation and help place the village within the Ardisana Valley. If the surroundings are as important to you as the village itself during a short stay, you can take these mountain landmarks into account when choosing your destination.

Hiking trails with different routes

The El Camín Encantáu hiking trail begins a few metres from Los Callejos. The trail initially follows the road towards Los Callejos and then crosses the San Miguel River. The starting point for the GR 105.2 Camín del Oriente is in the upper part of Los Callejos. From there, the route leads into the Ardisana Valley and along the foot of Pico Benzúa. The two descriptions offer different landmarks for choosing a route: for Camín Encantáu, they mention the village’s proximity and the sequence of road and river crossing; for the GR 105.2, they mention the upper part of the village, the valley and the foot of Pico Benzúa.

On the Los Callejos–Corao section, the GR 105.2 joins the Roman road and the Camín Real de Piedrafita. This historic path leads to Collada de la Vega del Puerto, on the boundary between the municipalities of Llanes and Cangas de Onís. When reading the trail names, it is worth distinguishing the GR section from the Camín Real as different reference points: one describes the route between Los Callejos and Corao, while the other is the historic path leading to the municipal boundary. This makes it possible to connect the specific hiking route with the history of the path without treating the two names as equivalent.

Cultural points of interest

Los Callejos is considered the Indianos village of the Ardisana Valley. The Chapel of Los Caleyos was inaugurated on 8 September 1979 and dedicated to the Virgin of Covadonga. The parish church of Los Callejos is dedicated to La Santina. The village is also traditionally associated with the craft of the Tejeros; this craft is no longer practised.

These points of interest differ in their historical context: the chapel has a specific inauguration date and dedication, while the Tejeros tradition refers to a craft associated with the village that is no longer practised. If you would like to plan your stay around more than just the trails, these cultural details add religious and craft-related local points of interest to the landscape perspective.

Plan your journey

Los Callejos is easy to reach from the A-8 via the Posada de Llanes exit; the drive takes eight minutes. This makes it easy to factor the journey into your day’s plans. Check current road conditions before planning your drive on the day of your trip.
