The Camino de Santiago reaches Posada. In Posada de Llanera, a circular route to Picu Santufirme and the Ruta de los Palacios provide additional and distinct route options; Plaza de La Habana and the Feria de San Isidro add a cultural dimension. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Posada, first consider whether your trip will be shaped by the pilgrimage route, a hike or the cultural programme.
Routes and how they differ
The approximately 10 km circular route in Posada de Llanera can be travelled on foot or by mountain bike. It leads to Picu Santufirme and its recreational area, which offers views across the municipality of Llanera and the surrounding area. Picu Santufirme is 438 m high.
The Ruta de los Palacios begins in Posada de Llanera and leads to Palacio de Villabona and Palacio de Villanueva, both dating from the 17th century. The Torre de los Valdés in San Cucao is also on the route. This 14th-century tower is a converted palace where riding lessons take place. The Ruta de los Palacios is 40 km long, easy to walk and has no major climbs. Access conditions at individual palaces may vary; check in advance whether a particular building is open to visitors.
Camino: historical connection and pilgrimage practice
The Camino through Posada follows the former Camino Real, which connected Oviedo with Avilés and its port. The Camino de Santiago through Llanera is listed as 10.2 km and takes about 1.5 hours on foot. Pilgrims can have their pilgrim credentials stamped at the tourist office or at participating local businesses. If you plan to visit a business for a stamp, check in advance which businesses are participating.
Plaza de La Habana
Plaza de La Habana was built between 1924 and 1926 and funded by emigrants from Llanera in Cuba. In 1996, it was restored to accommodate facilities for the Escuela Municipal de MĂşsica. The plaza includes an event space for musical and theatrical performances. The construction and subsequent restoration mark different periods in its history: from funding by emigrants to its use for music and theatre.
Feria de San Isidro in May
The Feria de San Isidro is held every year in May in Posada de Llanera as a livestock fair and traditional market. The market includes crafts and demonstrations recreating traditional crafts. Individual events may vary from one edition to another. The programme for the 2026 edition included a demonstration of how Asturian cider is poured and a presentation on Asturian cider culture, as well as a free public tasting of fabada. If you plan to attend a future edition, check the date and specific programme for your travel year.
