Bueres and the Camín Real del Sellón

As a centuries-old settlement on the Camín Real del Sellón, Bueres brings together two time scales: the history of a particular village and the longer history of a historic route. Together with nearby Govezanes, Bueres formed an important historic centre of the arrería, as the Camín Real ran through here towards the Collada de Arnicio. For those who view historic places through more than individual buildings, this route offers another way to explore the history of the area.

The Capilla de Santiago

The Capilla de Santiago in Bueres dates from the 17th and 18th centuries and is designed in the folk Baroque style. Its rectangular nave is flanked by two porticoes of different designs: the western portico is enclosed, while the southern one is open. The style and architectural features answer different questions: Baroque places the chapel in its historical context, while the nave and porticoes describe its specific form. The contrast between the enclosed and open porticoes offers a precise architectural comparison within the same building. For the cultural part of a trip, the chapel is therefore a clear point of reference alongside the history of the Camín Real.

The shared setting of the Tercia de Bueres

The Tercia de Bueres comprises Bueres, Gobezanes and Nieves. This shared setting highlights traditional Casines architecture and native livestock. This adds two further perspectives alongside the chapel and the history of the Camín Real: architectural forms emphasised across the Tercia as a whole, and native livestock as a feature of this regional context. If you are interested in village culture, the Tercia offers a different perspective from the history of Bueres alone.

Mountain landscape and protected area

Landscape descriptions also cover areas of different sizes. Bueres is one of the villages and hamlets in the municipality of Caso; the entire municipality lies within Redes Natural Park. The natural park is also designated a Biosphere Reserve. The wider mountain region of Caso also includes the Tiatordos summit. To put this in context: Bueres is the specific place, while the natural park, Biosphere Reserve and Tiatordos relate to the wider landscape of Caso or Redes. The name Tiatordos adds a specific summit in Caso’s mountain region to the protected-area context; the Biosphere Reserve designation, by contrast, applies to Redes Natural Park.

Hiking from Nieves

The PR-AS-125 is a specific option for a hike. The trail begins in Nieves, which can be reached from Bueres by road, and passes through Colláu Llagu Ovia and other stops before reaching Orlé. The stated starting point is therefore in Nieves, not Bueres; access from Bueres and the route itself are two separate planning considerations. Check the weather and trail conditions before setting out, as they can change. This lets you plan the excursion as a hike in its own right, rather than conflating it with the history of the village.
