The Río Guadalhorce rises at the Fuente de los Cien Caños, creating a striking natural setting for a stay in Villanueva del Trabuco. The Fuente de los Cien Caños – Nacimiento del Río Guadalhorce Natural Monument was designated in 2011 and covers 8.25 hectares. It is part of the ZEC Sierra de Camarolos. At the spring, irrigation channels collect water from the Sierra de San Jorge.

Water Landscapes and Karst

The Sierra de San Jorge is a limestone lapiaz several kilometres across, with a karst depression containing the Laguna de San Jorge. The lagoon is a designated point of interest on the PR-A-353 Sierra de San Jorge. On the PR-A 394 Sierra Gorda, the Cueva de Toma y Bebe and the Mirador Alto de Hondonero are among the designated points of interest. The exploration therefore focuses on different landforms and named natural sites alongside the river’s source.

Routes by Length and Format

The routes vary in length and format. The E4-GR-7 is a 3.5-kilometre linear route from Villanueva del Rosario to Villanueva del Trabuco. It runs from the Carretera A-7203 to the Camino de Gumeo and can be used on foot, by mountain bike or on horseback. It is marked with GR trail signs approved by the Andalusian Mountaineering Federation.

The PR-A-353 Sierra de San Jorge is a 10-kilometre circular route that starts and ends at the Fuente de los 100 Caños in Villanueva del Trabuco. Poor trail conditions are reported for this route; check the conditions before setting out. By comparison, the PR-A 394 Sierra Gorda is also a circular route, at 19 kilometres. It runs from the Camino de Borreguero to the Camino de Gumeo in Villanueva del Trabuco, passes through the ZEC Sierra de Camarolos and can be used on foot, by mountain bike or on horseback. This gives you a linear route of 3.5 kilometres and two circular routes of 10 and 19 kilometres.

The Vía Ferrata de la Pita offers a different kind of route: its described course includes vertical sections, bridges and exposed passages. It is therefore quite different from the linear trails and those designated as circular routes.

Local History and Events

The Iglesia Parroquial dates back to the founding of Villanueva del Trabuco as part of Charles III’s resettlement plans. This adds a historical dimension to the town’s nature-focused attractions. Check the latest access information before visiting.

The Alma craft brewery is another attraction for visitors: it offers public tours and tastings of its craft-brewed beer. Check in advance whether the offering is available on your chosen date.

The anniversary edition of the Encuentro de Coleccionismo in August 2026 combined the buying and selling and exhibition of collectibles with activities, classic cars and offerings aimed especially at children and young people. The eighth Feria Agroganadera, held in June 2025, included livestock shows, agricultural machinery and workshops for all age groups. If you’re planning to attend a future event, check the specific dates and programmes.

The Ruta Lunar is a traditional summer equestrian event that brings together riders from across Andalusia each year. In the 2026 edition, the approximately 20-kilometre route passed through the natural landscapes of Villanueva del Trabuco by moonlight. The route and its description refer to this edition; if you’re travelling for a later event, check its dates.
