La Cala del Moral combines the city beach along the seafront promenade with the paths at El Cantal and religious and archaeological heritage. This gives you a clear question to consider when planning your trip: should your stay focus primarily on the beach, walks or local traditions? In addition to the coast, a shrine, religious festivals and prehistoric connections give the town other points of interest.

Beach and paths at El Cantal

Playa de La Cala del Moral is an approximately 1.5-kilometre-long city beach integrated into the seafront promenade. The beach has an accessible access point, toilets and showers, as well as sun lounger and parasol hire, waste bins and a cleaning service. The facilities are available seasonally and may change; it is best to check the current services before your visit.

A different side of the coast can be explored on a walk along the Acantilados de El Cantal. The walk can follow paths beside the sea or pass through the old El Cantal tunnels. The tunnels are a historic structure with an early 20th-century character. Anyone interested in architectural history will find a different focus here than on the paths right beside the sea.

The Acantilados contain numerous cavities that provide habitats for endemic Mediterranean species in the intertidal zone. At the end of the Paseo MarĂtimo in the El Cantal area is the Santuario de la Virgen del Carmen. It offers panoramic views and is a place of worship for seafarers and the local community. A path over the rocks by the Santuario connects La Cala del Moral with RincĂłn de la Victoria.

Local history and religious traditions

The present-day Parroquia de Nuestra Señora del Rosario replaced the former parish chapel on Avenida Principal. It had become too small due to rapid population growth. The feast of the Virgen del Rosario takes place in October, following a solemn triduum.

The procession of the Virgen del Carmen takes place every year on 16 July. The image is carried from the Parroquia de Nuestra Señora del Rosario to the sea and placed on a traditional boat. The procession links the parish with the coast and makes the celebration’s maritime connection tangible. The exact procession schedule may vary; if you are planning your visit around it, check the current schedule in advance.

Other religious customs also shape the annual calendar: after Mass, the Custodia is carried solemnly through the streets of La Cala del Moral. A few days before a solemn procession, the square in front of the Parroquia is decorated with a large carpet of natural flowers.

Prehistoric heritage and peaceful walks

Topics covered on a guided tour of the Cueva de la Victoria include Palaeolithic and Neolithic rock art. The visitor address is Urbanización, Avenida de Picasso, C. el Cantal 21, 29730 La Cala del Moral, Málaga. The prehistoric motifs offer a different focus from the religious traditions and coastal paths.

The Parque Arqueológico del Mediterráneo features replicas of walls with prehistoric rock paintings, inspired by finds from the Cueva del Tesoro. Its paths, bordered by natural rock formations, are ideal for peaceful walks. Here, the focus is on the replicas and a walk through the park, while the Cueva de la Victoria is associated with rock art from two prehistoric periods.
