In Torre Del Campo, nature, hiking trails and cultural discoveries come together. The Bosque de la Bañizuela is protected as a natural monument within the RENPA network. Its Mediterranean forest, with its ancient trees and the Arrayán de La Bañizuela, listed as a particularly notable individual specimen, gives the natural area its distinctive character.
Nature and trails on different scales
The Sendero Cerro Miguelico is a 2.2-kilometre circular trail; the walk is estimated to take around 1 hour and 15 minutes. This makes it easy to plan differently from longer routes: the section of the Camino Mozárabe between Jaén and Torre del Campo is approximately 13 kilometres long and rated moderate. The details on distance, duration and difficulty offer different points of reference for planning your own trip.
The VĂa Verde del Aceite runs through Torre del Campo and is intended for cycling and walking. Cyclists, pedestrians and people with reduced mobility are listed as users. Another route option is the Ruta de la AscensiĂłn al Pico Jabalcuz: the former Torre del Campo station on the VĂa Verde del Aceite is recommended as the starting point.
Buildings and regional history
The Iglesia de San Bartolomé preserves elements of a medieval building project; most of its present-day appearance dates from the 16th century. The church also houses the Cristo de la Vera Cruz, from the same century. The Torre Olvidada offers a different architectural scale: the medieval tower is cylindrical, has a diameter of 8 metres and stands about 3.5 metres high today. It is open for free visits; check the visiting arrangements before your trip.
The Castillo del Berrueco also tells the story of different historical periods. The rural castle of Islamic origin underwent extensive alterations after its conquest by the Castilians. The Ermita de Santa Ana is located on the eastern side of Cerro Miguelico. Religious buildings, a medieval tower and a castle with later alterations thus offer different points of interest for culture enthusiasts.
Historical interpretation also explores Iberian life: Animaciones y Recreaciones Mary Turrus developed three themed routes through Torredelcampo and staged reconstructions featuring rituals and scenes from everyday life. Those interested in local history can thus find a way to explore historical ways of life as well as the buildings.
Festivals and olive oil culture
The Festival Flamenco Juanito Valderrama is a recurring cultural event; in 2026 it reached its 30th edition. The RomerĂa de Santa Ana takes place on the first Sunday in May and is recognised as an event of national tourist interest. It includes a rociera Mass and a procession of the patron saint over a hill. The Noche de las Migas is a traditional gastronomic event, with public registration available for participation.
Olive oil offers another focus for planning a trip. Oleocampo organises guided visits to olive farms and oil mills, as well as workshops on tasting and using olive oil. The Centro de InterpretaciĂłn de Torredelcampo at Oleocampo is dedicated to the properties and uses of oil. Check the latest visit and workshop offerings in advance, as booking arrangements may change.
