In Prados de Armijo, devotion to the Virgen Milagrosa meets several precisely named routes through the landscape. When planning your visit, you can consider whether you mainly want to explore the patronal celebrations and religious sites or set aside time for a hike. The routes differ in their described landscape features and waypoints.
Hiking Trails and Landscape
The PR-BS-28 circular hiking route begins in Prados de Armijo (La Solana), on the square in front of the church. It initially follows a path parallel to the Arroyo del Ojanco for 1.5 kilometres, then meets the JA-9115. This identifies both the starting point and a notable section of the route.
PR-BS-30 is also a circular hiking route and passes through Prados de la Solana. It climbs through olive groves to the Barranco de Cuadros and reaches an elevation of 1,110 metres. PR-BS-28 is marked by the square in front of the church and the section alongside the Arroyo; PR-BS-30 focuses on olive groves, the ravine and elevation.
PR-BS-31 passes the Arroyo del Ojanco and climbs via the Barranco de Cuadros track to Cerro del Tomizo. The route also follows the JA-9115 towards Prados de Armijo and ends in Prados de la UmbrĂa. If you use notable place names for orientation, this route has several named waypoints along the way.
PR-BS-32 also uses specific landmarks: the route follows the JV-7007, passes over Cerro de la Atalayuela and continues along the Cerezuelo track. It is designated as a circular hiking route; one endpoint is in Prados de la UmbrĂa.
The Sendero Olivo Milenario Fuentebuena Arroyo del Ojanco is accessible on foot, by bicycle and on horseback. At the junction in Prados de Armijo, the path turns off; the Olivo de la Fuentebuena is about 50 metres from the road. The forms of transport and named olive tree give this trail a different focus from the circular routes. Check local trail conditions before setting out.
Church, Patronal Celebrations and History
The Capilla de la Milagrosa is in the district of Prados de Armijo. A 2017 description mentions a small altarpiece measuring 90 Ă— 70 centimetres in the Iglesia de la Virgen Milagrosa in Prados de Armijo, featuring an image of the Nazareno. The altarpiece is described as having carved angel heads at the sides and an image of Christ in the centre. If you would like to see the altarpiece, ask locally about how it is currently displayed.
Patronal celebrations in honour of the Virgen Milagrosa have been held since 1941. The main patronal festival takes place on the weekend closest to 23 May. During the festivities, evenings with dance events alternate annually between La Solana and La UmbrĂa. In a procession, the Virgin is carried to La UmbrĂa and then back to her church in La Solana. Confirm the current programme before your trip if you would like to plan your visit around the celebrations.
The history of the surrounding area is also part of the local landscape: remains from various civilisations, including Muslim remains, have been found around Prados de Armijo. The Fuente de Prados de Armijo is in good condition. Together, these places and historical traces offer different points of interest for a stay that combines culture, history and landscape.
