When planning a visit to Venta del Charco, nature and local culture can be considered separately. The Aldea del Cerezo–Venta del Charco hiking trail and the Camino de Vuelcacarretas represent different landscapes; there are also the Parroquia Nuestra Señora del Carmen and the Feria. Particularly distinctive are the extensive dehesas, home to the province of Córdoba’s only stand of Pyrenean oaks, as well as dense forests of holm oaks and cork oaks. If you are planning a stay, you can weigh up nature trails, architectural history and festive culture as separate focuses.
Hiking trails and nature
The Aldea del Cerezo–Venta del Charco hiking trail passes through extensive dehesas and the province of Córdoba’s only stand of Pyrenean oaks. The trail is also associated with the Sierra de Cardeña y Montoro area, which is designated as both a ZEC and a ZEPA. This connects the trail’s landscape with an area covered by several protected-area designations.
The Camino de Vuelcacarretas is one of the marked visitor trails in the Sierra de Cardeña y Montoro Natural Park. It leads into a dense forest of holm oaks and cork oaks and through Mediterranean scrubland. When choosing a nature theme, you can weigh up the differences: one trail focuses on dehesas and Pyrenean oaks, while the other features oak forest and scrubland.
Wildlife is another feature of the natural park. Among other species, Iberian lynxes, Spanish imperial eagles and black kites may be seen there; sightings are not guaranteed. The Aldea del Cerezo–Venta del Charco hiking trail passes through several livestock droving routes (vĂas pecuarias).
Hiking trail: check current status
A notice dated 29 April 2026 reported that the Aldea del Cerezo–Venta del Charco hiking trail had been closed to the public from that day due to maintenance work. Check the trail’s current status before travelling.
Parroquia Nuestra Señora del Carmen
The Parroquia Nuestra Señora del Carmen was built between April and September 1964 and is a modern building from the 1960s. Its design is described by a rectangular façade, a triangular pediment and an attached bell tower. The pediment is the triangular gable at the top of the façade; the bell tower is a separate architectural element attached to the building. Its construction period and architecture offer a different perspective on local culture from the hiking trails: the focus here is a single building with clearly defined forms.
Feria: timing and programme
The Feria de Venta del Charco takes place every year between late July and early August in honour of the patron saint, Nuestra Señora del Carmen. If you want to plan your trip around the celebration, check the exact dates for the relevant year. The 2026 edition’s programme included evening dances, games for children and young people, food competitions featuring local products, performances by folk and popular music groups, and communal meals. The festivities therefore range from dancing and music to games, competitions and shared meals. As future programmes may vary, check the festival dates and programme for your travel year; the recurring time of year provides a rough seasonal guide.
