Posadas has many different facets: Barrio de la MorerĂa preserves an organically developed street pattern, the Eduardo Torroja Bridge stands out for its construction, and La Sierrezuela offers an extensive parkland setting. There is also a culinary tradition ranging from local dishes to historical recipe collections. You can therefore shape your stay around local history, nature or cuisine and explore these themes separately.

Landscape and trails

La Sierrezuela peri-urban park covers 384 hectares and is located in the municipality of Posadas, in CĂłrdoba. It lies in the transition zone between the Sierra Morena and the Vega del Guadalquivir. La Sierrezuela is also known for its population of dwarf fan palms; vegetation observations may vary seasonally.

A hiking trail in La Sierrezuela starts at a small kiosk with a bar. Facilities mentioned there include showers, parking integrated into the surroundings, a riding area, drinking fountains, tables and a kitchen. Conditions and operation may change; check local conditions before your visit. This allows you to take the available facilities into account when planning, without assuming that every service is available at all times.

The GR-48 long-distance trail crosses the municipality of Posadas on stages 14 and 15. This provides a separate reference point for planning a hike; check the route and signage before setting out. Posadas Aventura is an ecological treetop adventure park associated with the nearby La Sierrezuela forest area near Posadas. It offers four courses, nine zip lines, and routes and trails for sporting activities, learning and exploring the varied flora. If you plan to visit this park, check public access options in advance.

Townscape and architectural history

Barrio de la Morería is considered the oldest part of Posadas. Its organically developed street pattern is typical of Hispano-Arab settlement centres; the neighbourhood is regarded as having both historical and landscape value. It thus offers a distinct way to connect with the town’s history, different from visiting individual buildings.

The 235-metre-long Eduardo Torroja Bridge has seven concrete piers and a distinctive metal structure with eight inverted trusses. Its length, piers and trusses offer concrete points of reference for observing the structure.

The Ermita de Jesús is an 18th-century Baroque temple on the old royal road from Córdoba to Seville. If you wish to visit the interior, follow the local religious schedule. The Arquito also connects architectural history with a visit to the town: it preserves the remains of a gate from the former castle of Posadas and has been listed as a Bien de Interés Cultural (B.I.C.) since 2006. The upper part contains a chapel-like place of worship with an image of the Virgen de los Remedios. Access is through the Oficina de Turismo premises; ask locally about opening arrangements.

Calle Gaitán is a former caliphal road, royal road and cattle-driving route. These historical designations give the street another connection to Posadas’ past, without equating it with a present-day long-distance hiking route.

Cuisine and culinary heritage

Posadas’ culinary tradition includes Rinran Maleno, Bienmesabe, Queso de Cerdo and Sopa de Ajo. If you specifically want to try one of these dishes, check its availability with the restaurant in advance. This keeps local cuisine part of your travel plans without assuming that any particular dish will be on the menu.

Olive growing is also part of the town’s long-standing tradition. The olives are harvested directly from the trees at the optimal stage of ripeness and cold-milled to produce virgin olive oil. If you would like to visit a producer or buy oil, check access and sales conditions directly in advance.

The Archivo Virtual de Gastronomía Malena includes unique copies dating from 1830 and another copy from 1875 containing more than 300 recipes from Posadas’ culinary tradition. The subject of cuisine thus extends beyond individual dishes to the town’s written culinary heritage.
