A willow-lined path along the Namhangang, an arboretum featuring endangered wildflowers, and an art museum with seasonal exhibitions bring a variety of highlights to the wider Yangpyeong travel area. When choosing where to stay, you can first consider whether you want to focus on nature, outdoor activities, art or market life.
Nature and trails in the travel area
Galsan Park is located on the banks of the Namhangang, and its riverside path is lined with willows. The Yangpyeong Mulsori-gil, Section 4, and a cycling path also run through the park. This makes both a walking trail and a cycling route available as outing options. The park is known for its cherry blossoms in April. The Nuri-bom Festival is also held in the park area every April. Dates and programmes may change. The park is also lit with colourful lighting at night; the lighting design may be adjusted over time.
Plants and natural history are the focus at the Yangpyeong Wild Flower Arboretum. The Nature Learning Center features around 200 different species of endangered wildflowers, while 50 different herb species grow in the herb garden. The arboretum also includes a wetland, Tteodeureongseom Island, a riverside access road and a research centre. A tropical arboretum broadens the botanical themes. The Nature Ecology Museum has a nature ecology model and educational videos. Hands-on programmes offer another way to engage with the arboretum; the programmes available may vary.
Forest and accommodation at Sweeja Park
Sweeja Park combines forest culture and recreation with accommodation, healing programmes, activities and education. The grounds include a forest education centre and a forest activity area for children. The forest exploration trail is 2.3 kilometres long. This gives the park a different focus from the arboretum: here the emphasis is on forest activities and an exploration trail, while the arboretum focuses on botanical collections and natural history.
Sweeja Park offers accommodation at Chogawon and the House of Healing. If you are considering staying there, check current availability and booking options before making specific plans. These names refer to the accommodation options; they are not automatically equivalent to hotels.
Art and culture at the Yangpyeong County Art Museum
The Yangpyeong County Art Museum presents seasonal exhibitions in spring, summer, autumn and winter. There are also special and outdoor art exhibitions, as well as creative educational programmes. An outdoor area is used to display sculptures and other media works and also serves as a venue for outdoor events. The basement has three education rooms for visitor programmes. On the third floor, a seminar room hosts academic, educational and cultural programmes, including lectures, forums, seminars and other cultural events. The programme also includes exhibition-related creative educational activities and the Byeolbyeol Art Market. Exhibition themes and programme dates may change; check the schedule if you want to visit a particular exhibition or event.
The market and other regional highlights
The Yangpyeong Water-Clear Traditional Market sells seasonal vegetables and fruit from Yangpyeong, as well as wild herbs gathered in Yongmun. The market has about 400 permanent shops; on the market days of the five-day market, around 200 temporary stalls are added. These figures are approximate and may change over time. The combination of permanent shops and additional stalls on market days provides a useful point of reference if you are considering adding a market visit to your plans.
Yanggang Island also adds to the region's attractions: it has a Mugunghwa garden and a bicycle traffic safety learning centre. Together with the trails in Galsan Park and the forest exploration trail in Sweeja Park, these offer various opportunities related to cycling and outdoor activity, while the arboretum and museum focus on natural history and art. Choose your focus based on which of these themes interest you most during your stay.
